The original was a high wire act that Nolan somehow managed to pull off beautifully. Hard to see how someone else could do as well.

I think this is the biggest headscratcher yet for remake fodder. Usually I can at least see some possible kernel of something that might be of some interest to some even if it doesn't personally interest me. But this, this just seems empty.

Finally.

I hope they get better effects this time.

Who do we want to play Leonard and Teddy? I am hoping for Taylor Lautner in both roles, just to spice things up a bit and to cover the missed opportunity from the other film.

Remake a pretty flawless film that's 16 years old and - on my last viewing anyway - hadn't dated at all.

I'm actually usually fairly relaxed about remakes but I can see absolutely no reason to remake Memento.

It wouldn't surprise me if the studio at the last minute decided that the reverse chronology was too confusing and released it in the 'correct' order. Which, IIRC, was a feature on the DVD extra.

Oh, just thought of a legitimate reason for a remake. Instead of using those old fashioned post it notes to keep track of everything, he can use siri on his Iphone.

Actually this new version is the original movie, Nolan did the remake first.

^ actually that's a good point, so much more of what we do is documented these days, surely every year whoever replaces Guy Pearce will get a handy reminder from Facebook?

"On this day last year you killed John G"

I totally expect it to be this gimmicky.

The changes in consumer technology in the last 20 years actually make for some major changes is how the story would play out.

That said, it is being done by a production company that has made no secret of their efforts to buy up any recognizable properties they can get to reboot or remake.
