Bleeding Cool| The First Screen Lois Lane, Noel Neill Dies, Aged 95

I'm deeply saddened by this. She had a long life, but she still felt so full of life everytime she turned up in a documentary or a convention.

Edit: I had originally written that Neill was the last surviving member of the cast of "Adventures of Superman". I had forgotten about Phyllis Coates, who played Lois Lane in the movie "Superman & the Mole Men" and the first season of the TV show, and is very much alive.

That's too bad, but at least she had a full life. I honestly found her to be a bit more likeable as Lois then Margot Kidder, even if her role was a lot simpler because of the times. RIP.

Very sad news. I liked her on Adventures of Superman. She had pretty good role the time the show was made.

RIP, Noel Neill.

What a great personality and presence she had. She was perfect as Lois Lane-- the epitome of the spunky reporter who would stop at nothing and be stopped by nothing. Both in character and in real life, she was an inspiration.

Aw. She did keep appearing in cameos in later Superman productions, usually as Lois Lane's mother. The last one was as Luthor's wife in Superman Returns. The statue of Lois Lane in Metropolis, IL, is modeled on her.

Back when I worked on Scarlet Street Magazine in the 90s, the editor and publisher got to be friends with Noel and Jack Larson through conventions. They'd always go out to dinner together when they were in the NY area. Us peons on the art staff (that was me) didn't get invited, but the takeaway I got was this: Noel was tiny, an absolute sweetheart, a joy to spend time with, and (surprisingly for her size) could drink anybody under the table.

While 95 is indeed a good run; and she appeared to still be very energetic and active for that age; it's still a sad situation, and my condolences are with her family and friends. As a very young kid, I watched her on the syndicated reruns of "The Adventures of Superman" and more recently (when TCM did a run of them) in the 1940ies Kirk Alyn Superman serials. She always seemed to be winking along with the audience and had a very infectious smile. RIP.

She's moved on to her next journey, but while she was here, she handled self with class and dignity on and off screen. She will be missed.
