Another proof that the Prophets are manipulative assholes who don't give a shit about humanoids.I believe it was the will of the Prophets that Winn rose to Kai. She had a role to play in the sealing of the Pah-Wraiths in their prison and that role was to betray the Prophets.
Predict Bajor's religious future if Opaca had stayed Kai instead of Winn
I really didn't like Winn but I realize, as the rest have stated, that she had an important part to fill. The religious story line that I found very true to life would have been nothing without her.

The key point would probably still be Kubus Oak returning to Bajor. He would try to buy his way back to Bajor with the circumstantial evidence of Bariel's involvement in the Kendra Valley massacre, Bariel is still the next in line for the position of Kai, Winn would still want the position and would use the info to discredit Bariel. In turn that would probably also discredit Opaka even if her role is kept hidden since her hand picked successor is seen as a traitor. Opaka might choose to step down (Prophets could give her a push) or Winn might sway the Vedek Assembly into removing Opaka, if they can, and once again Winn would be the only option and the plan would be back on track.
