No time travel story for Trek XI...IMHO that is.

Sorry if this has already been covered as I haven't posted here in a long time...

I've noticed that plenty of fans are predicting yet another time travel Trek movie. Is this just speculation, or has there been an online leak already of the genuine script?...

My thoughts are that the movie will start and end with the old, present day Spock. Wether he is on his death bed, ill, or just reminiscing about the past, I am speculating that this entire movie will be a "flashback" sort of like the way the movie titanic was done.

In no way, shape, or form, will present day Ambassador Spock travel back in time to interact with his younger self in the past. To me it would be ridiculous if that were the case.

Like I said, it will be done Titanic style.

Please post your thoughts. I have plenty of catching up to do...

I think it's certainly not impossible for this movie to be done without time travel. A Titanic style flashback could be very well done with Old Spock retelling the days of his youth to perhaps child or grandchild of his about to go off to Starfleet Academy. The main reason most fans are predicting time travel is because several actors in interviews recently, including Pine, and the actor playing Chekov whose name escapes me at the moment, have stated they share scenes with Nimoy. There could be other non-time travel reasons to account for that though (holodeck, dream sequence?).

Personally, I'm not one of those people who hate time travel or think it's been done to death. I'd rather see Nimoy take a more active role in the movie and the plot than just playing narrator. I'm hopeful whichever way they go with it though, it'll be well done and enjoyable.

Pine (young kirk), Quinto (young Spock) and Nimoy seem to have several scenes together. It's not proof per se of time travel, but given the Romulan time-travel plot rumors it's looking pretty likely that Old Spock ends up in the past.

I've personally seen the movie while visiting June (right, not May...sorry...they changed it) of next year.

It's not a time travel story.

:p

Spock is going to go back in time and accidentally prevent his parents in the past from meeting each other and causing Amanda to fall in love with him. He then has to get Amanda together with the younger dorkier version of Surak and play his Vulcan lyre for them at the Vulcan ritual pon farr dance or else he'll never be born. Afterwards, Spock has to travel through the timestream and kidnap different figures from Federation history to take to Star Fleet Academy so he can give his excellent history report.

Spock: "1.21 jigawats...1.21 jigawats..."
Young Kirk: "What the hell is a jigawat?"

As much as I would rather not see it, I too believe that Spock will be travelling through time.

Pressured to make a decent Trek film, Spock prematurely stepped into the Quantum Plot Machine and vanished! He awakes in the past, facing another actor in his role. His only guide on this journey is J.J. Abrams, who appears as his director. Trapped in the past, Spock finds himself trekking from place to place, trying to put right what once went wrong and hoping that each time that the next trek will be canon!

Spock is the silver age Superman? ;)

"Oh, fascinating..."

Of course, Old Spock could just use the holodeck. It worked great for "These Are The Voyages," so why not Star Trek XI?

Young Kirk: "You made a time machine...out of the Enterprise?"

Spock: "The way I see it, if you going to build a time machine, why not do it with some style?!?!"

Spock: "Is there some problem with 23rd century gravity?"

Spock: Oh my God, they found me. I don't know how, but they found me. Run for it, Kirk!

Young Kirk: WHO?

Spock: Who do you think? The Klingon/Romulan hybrids!!!

Young Kirk: Holy shatners!

Yea, but why did Old Spock throw the Heart of the Ocean Diamond off the side of the explorer ship? And didn't he feel guilty letting Leonardo DiCaprio drown like that? I mean wasn't there room on the huge door for both of them? Couldn't they have taken turns?

KIRK: Mr. Spock, I come from a long line of time travelers. In fact, my ancestor, General Haywood Kirk, back in the 1960's was in charge of America's most secret project, the Time Tunnel.
SPOCK: I am somewhat familiar with your ancestor . . . I believe he bore an uncanny physical resemblance to Mr. Lurry of Space Station K-7.
