No thread about the license plates? For shame!

Speculation... *Spoilers*

We learned that Kirk's uncle is "abusive." So perhaps this uncle did something that pissed Jim off, and being in the rebellious spirit, he decides to get back at him and steal his most precious collect the car.. ultimately sending it to its untimely death.

I'd figured Abrams' futurist consultants said there would be so many vehicles 200 years from now that a six-digit license plate wouldn't do it anymore.
At least a six-digit license plate makes more sense than these ...

Well as Spock would say," That would explain a great many things".

Abusive Uncle" Jimmy KIRK!!!!!...Get me a beer NOW you little punk!!!!!Oh and bring me my favorite red drinking teeshirt.....

Knowing Abrams I'm surprised the numbers on the plate aren't
4 8 15 16 23 42:lol:

A little OT, but in the very first shot, where he turns the corner, the rag top is "on", then after the speedometer shot, as he's going straight, the top is down and (presumably) stowed.
When the frack did he have time to do that? Maybe he really knows where he's headed and knows he's gonna need a way out, but lifting the top at those speeds would rip it off or at least mangle it somewhat.

BTW, here's the HD trailer on Yahoo

"Uncle Frank" was on the US Life on Mars a couple of weeks ago. He played the gunman who took hostages in a hospital psych ward.

General feeling is that there's probably a fair bit between the first shot (top up) and the rest which simply isn't seen in the trailer. Could be a whole scene separating them, for all we know.

^ So maybe he stopped somewhere and put the top down hoping the cop wouldn't recognize him? Then he thought to himself: "Oh right, 24th century, probably the only little red Corvette still around. Damn!"

Also, the tires don't really squeal on a dirt road; the intersection where the audio offense supposedly takes place is one of a left-to-right dirt road and a camera-to-horizon asphalt road...

What I'm amazed at is that they got the registry plate of the DeLorean right between those two movies, but the shape and size of the aft exhausts wrong!

I suppose that's one scenario.
