Many TREKFANS are already fetching about silly things..and this is one of them. I was sitting in the theatre, and a disgrunted TREK fan said the following as we were filtering out of the movie that just garnered a very loud applause..
"Geeeee...why didn't spock use the slingshot time-travel doo hickey, and go back to the point of time before the entropy set in and then..."
I just WANTED to reach out right there and put the obvious nerd out of his misery. I saw other people looking at him with pity. Yeah, I know, that was me a long time ago. Was I really that bad too???
Spock FAILED...that is part of the drama of the movie.
Slingshots...aye...well. No matter. He'll probably grow up knowing more about warp engines and have not a clue what to do with a woman.....I weep for him as I would for a brother.
