No plastic kneecap or spacesuit?

HansVerhaaden

Lieutenant
I always felt that the crew seemed to be very vulnerable when beaming down to strange planets. Their attire of the simple V neck sweater and the trouser tucked in to the boots seemed to leave them open to injury and potential death too easily.

I often wonder if they should have been kitted out with a plastic kneecap or some sort of space suit.

They just seem too exposed to face a potentially dangerous situation.

Well they scan the planet typically before they go down.

What kind of actor wants to be in a spacesuit all the time? ;)

Or maybe just a bicycle helmet?

Really would have helped when the feeders of Vaal came at them with those forked sticks.

Technically, the tunics aren't sweaters, they aren't v-necks, and the the trousers are not tucked in, they're just short britches. But your overall point is valid.

The other side of the coin is, in my view, a bigger problem. When you're aboard the ship all day, those tall uniform boots are a lot more protection than you need.

How about the ladies uniform. Stockings? Really?
All Treks should have had a different landing party uniform for potentially hostile conditions. Like I think they did in 'The Cage' and TWOK.
But they can't cater for everything and wear a suit of armour. While a personal force field (as in Dune) would have been great Star Trek is a drama and redshirts have got to die somehow.

The neckline is the top edge of a garment that surrounds the neck...

jewel neckline (circular)
these are round and sit at the base of the throat, and are also called the T-shirt neckline or crew neck.

V-neck (2–4 linear edges, side edges diverge)
...are formed by two diagonal lines from the shoulders that meet on the chest creating a V shape.
The line AT THE NECK, not the shape of the collar. That's the definition as used by the garment industry. Call it a QRX neck if that floats your boat, but it's just as wrong as V.

I see a V neck sweater - a V shape around the top of the sweater. You do not. We will agree to disagree!

This is a V-Neck sweater. The collar is in the shape of a V.

This is a V-Neck tee shirt

None of these resemble the collars of the Trek uniforms. There's nothing to "agree to disagree" about. The black material makes a V, but it's not a V neck.

The JJ Abrams movies, however, do have V neck shirts with black undershirts making the shape that was sewn into the tunics in the series. And the pants were tucked into the boots, so maybe you're mixing them up?

There is both a V present in your photos and a V present on the front neck sector of Kirk's sweater.
