Starring Michael Chiklis, Julie Benz, Christina Chang, Kay Panabaker, Jimmy "My name's James Tiberius Kirk!" Bennett, Autumn Reeser, Romany Malco and Stephen Collins.

The Powells are about to go from ordinary to extraordinary. After 16 years of marriage, Jim and Stephanie's relationship lacks the spark it once had, and their family life now consists of balancing work and their two children, leaving little time for family bonding. During a family vacation set up by Jim in an attempt to reconnect, their plane crashes into the Amazon River. But this is where the fun starts for the Powells, as they soon discover that something's not quite right. Each of them now possesses unique and distinct superpowers.

If you can't wait until Sept. 28, you can watch it online here at ABC.com with the case-sensitive password "Extraordinary" that's required. I assume this will be limited to North America, unfortunately. Also, the forced commercials appear in the middle of scenes instead of at natural commercial breaks, which is a bit annoying.

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

I saw the Pilot a couple of weeks back and I liked it, more so because I'm a fan of Chiky. I noted while watching the show that it didn't take itself as serious as Heroes, and I look forward to seeing how it plays out.

watching now, thanks for headsup.

*The Incredibles live-action?
*woah, they really jump right through the origin story huh?

Just watched it. Excellent! I didn't think I would like it...but it was great. It will be interesting to see what kind of stories they can tell. :bolian:

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

Not taking this uber-seriously and being more willing to just have FUN with their show probably is a better way of going through things.

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

That was actually a lot better than I thought it would be. While I like the fact there's apparently other people with superpowers in their world, I'm not sure it needed to be introduced in the first episode. Although it was interesting to see.

This show handled a live-action fight between people with powers better in the the first episode than Heroes did in 4 years.

I frowned a little at that. Seem to take away from the family feel of the pilot

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

I loved it,it reminded me of the fun when Heroes first started,I just hope the producers of No Ordinary Family learned from the mistakes they made.

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

This premieres tomorrow, so I thought it was worth bumping the thread back up.

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

Hubby's hot on seeing this, but to me, it just looks stupid as hell. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

^ Well this show surpasses Heroes in one episode versus four seasons if that means anything to you. :)

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

It's got Julie Benz, I'm in for a few episodes....once I get around to it on Hulu, since I don't have cable.

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

^^^Why couldn't you just watch on your local ABC station? Or are you in an area where it doesn't come in very well?

I saw it at Comic-Con and really liked it. I think they felt they had to introduce the other-powered menace to hook that part of the fanbase that wants a little more edge than the rest of the show portrayed. My only fear is that it might start to get "soapy". Hopefully they'll be able to walk all their various tightropes (family drama, superhero show, police procedural, etc.) and not go plummeting to their creative death.

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

I'm probably mistaking, but I could have sworn the supervillain was the pilot from the plane crash.

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

^ The pilot (Tate Donovan) was supposed to come back as the big bad, but they decided to drop him from the show as a regular, but there's a chance he could still return in a recurring role.

So for that picture I used, just replace Tate Donovan with Stephen Collins and you have the actual cast. :)

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

I gotta say I'm really looking forward to this... especially the fact that I'll be able to get my weekly dose of Autumn Reeser again. ;)

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

Really enjoying this so far! I'll probably even ditch Glee on Tuedays.

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

This is definitely on my watch list this year. The episode was pretty good and hopefully the series maintains the strong start. The only thing I was wishing for by the end of the episode was a little more time for JJ, but I'm sure we'll see more next week since his ability just manifested near the end.

Re: No Ordinary Family: "Pilot" - Sept. 28 (online now) - Grade & Disc

An excellent start. We already have a good idea who the family members are, what they want and how they think. The sidekicks need a little fleshing out but there's lots of hours yet. The FX were neat, the superspeed was nicely visualized. The pacing was superb. There was a deft touch (essential when something as silly as superpowers are involved.) The only sour note was Stephen Collins as the boss being involved. Such a coincidence makes the world a tiny place, which is not a good thing.
