Jim is mistaken for a vigilante while trying to protect people in the park at night. Meanwhile, Daphne uses her powers to get herself invited to a party she normally wouldn't have been considered for.

Weakest episode of the show so far. The continuing slow development of the Dad into a real super hero is good, as well as him making mistakes.

The stuff with the kids is boring, particularly boring this week.

And the Mom/Lab/Science-y stuff could be fun depending on where it all leads.

Not my favorite episode either, however we did get some good character development. JJ was very annoying up until the end when we can see his doubt about lying about his powers. I don't get what the big deal is about keeping up the lie anyway.

It was an okay show, but without the character development for Jim and JJ it would've blown. I did like the other vigilante's advice to Jim about being with his family. I also liked Jim telling his wife pointedly that the kids need a parent, not just him around all the time.

Re: No Ordinary Family: "No Ordinary Vigilante" - Oct. 19 - Grade/Disc

The last scene with the police sting operation was interesting because it was almost like the show was suggesting that Jim doesn't need to be a hero and to leave it to the cops. But it goes against the entire tone and nature of the show so far, which is why it felt so odd.

I get the impression from schizo moments like that there is no real commanding force in the writers room for the show. It needs a show-runner and head writer who can really decide what the tone of the show is and what direction to take it creatively.

How does math account for arm strength?

This show could use some tighter focus, but compared to Heroes this is freaking Homicide: Life on the Street.

kid stuff is friggin gettin annoying, loved Jim putting on the clark kent glasses to hide his identity that was classic, is it me or is julie benz getting hotter with each episode!? all in all it was an average ep nothing spectacular happened

Yeah, honestly, I think the Dad is getting far too much screen time compared to each of the others. It seems that every week, the episode is about him doing something. Let's see the wife get into some action for once. I want to see it lead to the family coming together as a crime solving team.

yeah the mother uses her speed for domestic use [doing dishes, cleaning and stuff] the kids are using theirs to get popular in school and crap. Jim is the only one actively doing good with his gift..he needs a mask though seriously!!! whats up with the new heroes nowadays not wearing costumes or masks COME ON!

I'm still watching mainly because it's on at 8 and that's when I'm making dinner, but man, this show really needs to find its footing, and soon. Family dramedy one minute, grim tale of a vigilante the next. Realistic police sting on said vigilante resulting in his tragic death, interposed with "if you are good at math, it also gives you a great throwing arm" silliness.

Eh, average. JJ's a nice kid and it's fun to watch him being able to realize some of his dreams. But the daughter is still annoying and the whole show is too after-school-special-bland.

the Mom/Lab/Science-y stuff could be fun depending on where it all leads.

That and JJ is what's keeping me from nuking this show off my DVR schedule.

i forget, but was the pilot called No Ordinary Pilot, or was it just called Pilot?

Re: No Ordinary Family: "No Ordinary Vigilante" - Oct. 19 - Grade/Disc

The stuff with Chiklis and him trying to become a superhero is good stuff, the stuff with the mom is annoying as she needs to do more with her powers than domestic stuff. The kid stuff actually isn't bothering as much as it seems to be others and as much as kid-stuff normally bothers me. It seems fairly natural.

The girl trying to use her powers to get popular? I think she's going the wrong way about it. It'd be more interesting if she gains the power of thought implantation.

The boy using his powers to be a star QB is sort-of cool but, yeah, doesn't account for things like arm strength or preventing him from getting snapped into two when even simple math won't give him a good pass and he gets sacked. Odd the coach so quickly gave the small kid a try at QB so quickly. The principal's tirade against the kid too is also odd. I mean obviously doing drugs makes you pass a football perfectly!

The mom, I don't even know. Ugh. Her storyline, if you can call it that, is just not interesting at all. She can run at the speed of sound and what is she doing with it? Putting away dishes.

The boy should just tell his parents hes got the powers already.

I like this show, the thing that kinda irks me is that , the parents give in too quick about him not having power, it is obvious he was effected , you don't go from D student to A+ and the QB for the football team in a month, just by "finally applying himself".

Yeah, that's been irking me too. They should have figured it out by now, yet they're still going along that route, which makes them sound stupid. While the Mom is figuring out the origin of the powers and doing dishes in her spare time, and the Dad is doing vigilante work, the Son is being berated about his grades being too good, and they still don't know especially after the scene with the principal? Do they need to be hit over the head with it? Your kid has powers, Einstein! They should give him some tests at home out of stuff that he's had trouble with in the past and watch him complete the tests, and give him some aptitude tests to figure out how far along he is, and maybe send him to university. Come on, J.J, tell your parents!

Some of this show is brilliant, but some of it also makes me scratch my head in wonderment in terms of the writing of the characters.
