No love for Shark Week?!

Other than smiling at the giant inflated shark that's mounted outside of Discovery headquarters every day as I go to work (at the less-flashy, undecorated Discovery production center around the corner), I honestly don't care much about Shark Week. It's even a fairly low-key event at work this year. I remember a lot more hype in the past, but this time around it's fairly "meh".

Honestly, I don't care much about Shark Week either, but for some reason this year I am pumped about it. I was pissed that they didn't have a single shark-related program on all day while I was at work. I was going to serve Shark Week cocktails, but it defeats the purpose if Shark Week isn't even playing!

Shark Week would be more entertaining and attention-drawing if it had more new content. I've seen many of the shows aired during shark week going back to when the "week" first started airing like 20 years ago.

That is a fair point. They don't really seem to try too hard with Shark Week anymore. Hell, yesterday there wasn't even a single shark-related program until early evening! I had all the TVs at my restaurant turned on to what was supposed to be Shark Week, and it ended up being an American Chopper marathon. I was annoyed.

As others have stated, most of that stuff I've already seen lots of times. It's hard to get excited about it at this point.

^^ This.

I haven't even bothered with it this year. I'd love Shark Weekend with all new programming! but a week of repeats is just boring.

Yet another day of an America Chopper marathon. I feel like I need to write a strongly-worded letter to the Discovery Channel. If they're not going to take Shark Week seriously, they shouldn't do it at all.

"We're humans. We live on land. Sharks live in water. So if you're swimming in the water and a shark bites you, that's called trespassing. That is called trespassing. That is not a shark attack. A shark attack is if you're chilling at home, sitting on your couch, and a shark comes in and bites you; now that's a shark attack. Now, if you're chilling in the water, that is called invasion of space. So I have never heard of a shark attack." -- Gilbert Arenas

Is this a real quote?

The first thing I though of when I read this were the old SNL Landshark skits.

No, that's a shark home-invading you and taking a bite out of your ass. Most attacks are provoked or cases of mistaken identity. The rest of the time you get bit it's more like a nibble to see if you're tasty, not attacking you in the sense a shark means to do more to you or is acting aggressive. They're just hungry.

Of course they're hungry, but a shark nibble is still going to do some serious damage!

In other news, they had Shark Week stuff on all day today, and I had every single TV at the bar playing it. Eventually some people asked me to turn it off because all the blood and gore was making them sick to their stomachs. I changed the channel for them, but I was sure to let them know I wasn't happy about it.

I've been checked-out on Shark Week for years. I mean, there's only so many times you can look at video of sharks swarming, eating fish, and snapping at the camera.

Call me when Shark Week goes 3D!

A lot of the new stuff today was pretty cool, especially since it was shot in HD. Plus, Craig Ferguson went swimming with the sharks!
