Thank you Kate! I've been quite remiss in my Star Trek movie watching...but I'll be rectifying that over the summer...I'm sure I'll have a lot more to say about them when I finish with my homework.

Well, it's one thing to say no to Boston Legal, and then reconsider retirement to do Star Trek, and maybe Bill could accept that. But how might Shatner have felt when he saw Nimoy on Fringe?

Generations was funny. Given the rate at which the Enterprise attracts...trouble, it should really be wormholed to the next galaxy and left there. Certainly she should never EVER be permitted to leave spacedock/utopia plenicia w/out every system fully operational, and with nothing less than a fully qualified crew.

Even so, the life expectancy of any given crew member is probably still something like ten minutes. :)

I've always heard that shatner and nimoy are really good friends, I think nimoy helped out shatner when his wife was suffering from alcoholism, and helped him get her treatment. I feel unconfortable prying into private lives, but I think we know that they are on good terms.

  5. Nimoy and Shatner are actually close friends. It's kinda cool.

Considering the ridiculous crap to which they resorted in order to get the plot to go where they wanted, I shudder to imagine what kind of nonsense they might have conceived in order to shoehorn Shatner into the film.

A Spockophile from way back I have enjoyed seeing Shatner reinvent himself over and over again and find him most entertaining when he is protraying Shatner. I am very glad to hear they are close after all these years. It makes an old Trekki rest easier knowing there is harmony between them even in RL.

I'm sure the retirement argument is just the polite excuse, a way of getting away with not finding that particular part attractive enough, regardless of how friendly they are.

On the DVD Mind Melt, Shatner and Nimoy sit in Nimoy's garden and walk around Nimoy's house, talking about the old days and both call one another one of the best friends. That was in 2001. And from this film I believe they were. So why should they not still be.

There's a gorgeous moment towards the end of the Mind Meld DVD where Nimoy and Shatner are looking over some of Nimoy's memorabilia, and completely out of the blue, Nimoy turns to Shatner and says, very simply, "You're my best friend." Shatner is so clearly overcome by it that he doesn't know what to say, but it's absolutely wonderful, and absolutely evident that he's touched by and reciprocates the sentiment.

Yeah I love that moment, it's my favorite part of the documentary. He holds Shatner to as he says it.

Yes..it is the best part of the DVD. Especially since they have been through so much together through the years...

You know you've been on the internets for too long when you see Nimoy/Shatner in a thread title and your mind fills with terror.

Yeah, there were probably times they were ready to kick each other's ass but in the end, they're friends and that's what BEST friends do!

I don't blame Bill Shatner for playing Kirk in Generations. It is not his fault that Kirk died. Blame producer Rick Berman. According to Bill Shatner, Berman told him they were going to kill Kirk with or without Bill Shatner's participation. So even if Shatner refused to play Kirk in Generations, Berman would have hired another actor to play Kirk and have Kirk die anyway.

I just saw that last week. Good stuff. I've read Shat's Trek-memoirs and Nimoy's, so it was cool to watch this vid and find it actually covers some new ground.
Nimoy's story I found additionally inspiring, the angst of his early career, and relatively late success in Star Trek. From his book, I understood he was a bit twisted on Spock, but seeing him relate it is different. And you can still hear the anger when he recalls odd things like not getting a phone in his dressing room. Nimoy was a mess. I guess I relate. :rommie:
