'Night Terrors' and hydrogen into the rift

JesterFace

Fleet Captain
Commodore
In 'Night Terrors' the solution to escape from the Tyken's rift was to release hydrogen into the rift which caused and explosion.

But, how did they do it? Everything they tried before failed because all the enegy was sucked into the rift. Systems to release the hydrogen from the buzzard collectors seemed to work just fine. Shouldn't the system to release the hydrogen be just as vulnerable to the energy draining as all the others?

There are some other weird things about energy and how it's absorbed by the rift in this episode... shame, otherwise it's a pretty good episode.

Releasing hydrogen didn't cause the explosion. It was combining hydrogen with a catalyst being released by the alien ship that caused the explosion.

As usual, their engines were effected, but other systems continued to operate. They still had weapons, computers, life support, etc. I didn't see releasing an element the ship normally collects as a problem. It was comparable to releasing water or strawberry jam.
