Yep. Nicola Bryant auditioned for the role of Captain Janeway. That might have been interesting. That factoid, plus a lot more, is present in rather a crafty and fun video. Enjoy!

Richard Dean Anderson..wow!
I didn’t know that.
Berman wasn't certain the Paramount brass would greenlight a female captain, so he wanted options. Ultimately he went to Paramount with Genevieve Bujold and Nigel Havers, and they greenlighted Bujold who, as we know, decided a few days into filming that she couldn't do it.

Rick Berman mentioned in an interview that he had been concerned that Bujold was temperamentally unsuited for a role like Janeway. Proof that the man wasn't wrong all the time.

I can see the memes if Susan Gibney had been chosen to play Janeway: FLED 70,000 LIGHT YEARS TO ESCAPE GEORDI'S STALKING

My favorite Richard Dead Anderson duality...
RDA as MacGyver: Hates guns, won't even use one to save his life, or let anyone he's working with use one either.
RDA as Jack O'Neil: "Check out my awesome FN P-90!"

factoid
/ˈfaktɔɪd/
noun
  • 1.an item of unreliable information that is reported and repeated so often that it becomes accepted as fact: "he addresses the facts and factoids which have buttressed the film's legend"
It is indeed a factoid, I'm afraid.

Nicola Bryant on X: "Yes I’m often asked this. I too have no idea where this story came from. I’m sure if you could find the date of these auditions you’d see I wasn’t even in LA then. So the answer is no. I did not audition for the role of Kathryn Janeway, though I would have loved to." / X (twitter.com)

I can't imagine her as anyone other than Peri. Even if she'd auditioned and gotten the part, they'd have had to replace John deLancie in the Q episodes with Brian Blessed (as King Yrcanos, he was very fond of "the splendid Perpugilliam of the Brown!").
