Blurb:
The first installment in a brand-new three-part digital-first Star Trek: New Frontier e-novel from New York Times bestselling author Peter David!

Captain Mackenzie Calhoun and the crew of the U.S.S. Excalibur are back, picking up three months after the stunning events depicted in New Frontier: Blind Man’s Bluff. Calhoun's search of Xenex has failed to find any survivors, and now he is bound and determined to track down the race that killed them—the D'myurj and their associates, the Brethren—and exact vengeance upon them. His search will take the Excalibur crew into a pocket universe, where he discovers not only the homeworld of the D’myurj, but another race that shares Calhoun's determination to obliterate his opponents. But is this new race truly an ally…or an even greater threat?

Interview with Peter David about the book

While I haven't been going crazy for a new NF story, since we are getting one I will gladly read it.

*sees review thread, gets excited, checks his Kindle*
*doesn't see it*
*checks release date*
*sighs dejectedly*

Don't get my hopes up like that! ;)

Figured since it will be out on Monday, Sho tends to overlook the eBook releases occasionaly and PAD had a short interview about it at StarTrek.com (linked in the op) I figured it wouldn't hurt to open the review thread a couple of days early. Sorry. :)

I was thinking this was due out tomorrow (It usually seems to be tuesdays) but it popped up this morning.

I'll probably make a start on it tomorrow.

Read it this morning. It's fine, entertaining enough though for me it all felt a bit samey. All the usual things you'd expect from a New Frontier book are there but apart perhaps from one returning cast member there's nothing particularly surprising.

The Trek e-book exclusives tend to come out on Mondays. I haven't come across any e-books in other IPs I follow so I'm not sure if it's all of them or just the Trek ones.

Part 1 just downloaded as an eBook, Parts 2 & 3 on pre-order! The first new "Star Trek: New Frontier" in a loooong time! Looking forward to it so much!

Can't wait to read it. My first eBook in ages. (First eBook ever was the "No Limits" NF anthology... because I couldn't wait for the air-freighted hardcopy).

I saw a little "Best seller" banner flashing under Part 1! Great news!

I'm not sure either, but yeah, the trek ebook exclusive ones always have. I just keep forgetting.

At the moment though, the UK Amazon version is point blank refusing to work properly for me:(
(A reset seems to have fixed it, so I'll be starting it shortly)

So does anyone have an explanation yet for why there's an Ambassador class ship on the cover?

Finished it at lunch today. I loved it. It was like being with old friends again! I loved the classic PAD cliffhanger at the end, too.

No. Having read part 1, I suspect that it's a goof (Drexler was told the Excalibur and didn't know that it was really the Excalibur-A); there's no textual reason for it.

Finished it at lunch. Overall, I enjoyed it.

It's been a while since I've read the NF series so I'll probably give them another go.

Finished it this evening and I enjoyed. It really was like being with old friends again. I have always felt NF was the closest to TOS out of all the 24th Century fiction and this still feels like that. Look forward to Part 2 and Part 3 and hopefully we get three more NF novellas every year for years to come.

Given an early plot point I thought I knew why but yeah---no apparent reason in part 1.
