Starfleet’s top military officer said on Friday that a cloaked intergalactic missile that the Romulan Empire has been secretly developing is set to be tested. A test launch will apparently be made with-in the next month. The missile has a range that could possibly reach Starbase 152.
Asked if the Romulan missile could reach the Starbase 152, Admiral Mike Mullen told FNN (Federation News Network) that "In some cases, yes, they could probably hit a target as far away as Starbase 152."
Galactic concern has been mounting about the Romulan announcement it would test the missile four months ago
.
The Federation and other allies believe Romulas is using the launch to test a new weapon system that could, in theory, cross the Federation border, deep into its territory, and eliminate the need for starships.
The launch, combined with Romulan bio-genic weapons, were cause for serious concern, the admiral said.
Mullen added the regime's missiles did not yet have a range that could strike Starfleet Command on Earth; but their efforts were aimed at that possibility.
Admiral Mullen declined to comment on any possible Federation military response to a missile launch.
The Romulans claim the missile will land harmlessly on the Federation side of the neutral zone and cause no deaths or injury.
Chancellor Martok has advised the Federation to treat this missile test as an act of War. Ambassador S’von of Vulcan has advised the Federation to see this launch as nothing more than a Romulan attempt at friendship between the two regimes.
