newbie question - star trek insignia

forgive my ignorance, but i felt if anyone could help me, this community could!

i've only recently gotten into watching star trek (im starting with the original first) and i really love it!

i work at a store that sells band merch. we do have star trek belt buckles though.

my question to you guys is, we sell these two buckles that are slightly different. this one:

is the one i see them wear on the show.

but we also have this one:

but i've never seen that on the show... is the second one i just posted in later seasons? or is it something the maker did for aesthetic reasons?

any help is appreciated.

Looks like something for aesthetic reasons. That particular design has never been done in any series or movies.

It is similar to the insgina used in TMP and the one from TNG and the first two seasons of DS9, but different enough from them.

Yeah, I agree. Similar to the movies...but not really. And the star in the middle was only used for TOS so we know it can't be for any of the later shows.

Yep. It's not from any onscreen use, but is reminiscent of the last anniversary logo used by CBS/Paramount. Check the back of the current Star Trek calendars.
