Newbie Advice Needed

Hi guys, i'm new to the forum and seeking a bit of help and advice from the experts!
Basically I was always a fan of TOS - as a kid I just thought those uniforms were so cool - and was never really taken with TNG, DS9, Voyager or Enterprise. However, loved the new film and was really glad to see them go for the classic uniform style.
Anyway to stop waffling on, i'm a collector of 1/6th figures and like to do comic photostories. So when the Trek 12" movie figures came out I thought it'd be pretty good to do a Star Trek story.
So what I plan to do is a story based in the Kirk/Spock era, using the new style Uniforms. I want to base it on a smaller ship, so that I don't have to have to many figures/crewmembers kitted out and saving my wallet... was thinking about 10 crewmembers + 5 Marines
Also was thinking of having a military presence on board the ship - thought maybe a ship carrying Starfleet Marines to trouble zones.
So anyway, my questions are... are there ships existing already in the Star Trek universe that match what i'm after? Is there any definitive uniform or any information at all on Starfleet Marines?

Hey, dario2739. That sounds like a really cool idea. If you can't find anyone in the fanfic section with the answer to this, you might want to try the General Trek BB. I saw a thread over there about merchandise and toys. Since I'm not into collectables, I don't have a clue, but I'm sure somebody around here does!

I'm a 1/6 scale collector and customizer (various subjects). Ambitious project you've got there. Personally, I don't see very much to recommend the Playmates 12" ST figs, but if you can make them shine, then more power to ya!

About Starfleet Marines? The closest I think were the MACOs, but they were pre-Starfleet.

well, an on-the-small-side frigate, maybe, or a scoutship. you could a write more non-canon story and make up your own type of ship.

they could escort important ambassadors such as spocks father sarek. doing so would give you the opportunity to explore all the major powers (though mainly klingons, romulans and cardassians, and i know ALOT about romulans if you want help, and i would be happy to edit your story).

Agreed. I have thought about a small crew story as well, and there is a CGI production about the Aurora, a two person crew (both women; one Vulcan/one human) and its actually quite good. I'd link to it but I am not sure we can...but its over in the fan production.
