I thought I would share some of the comments we have received on the last episode, These are Genuine, and from some of the COOLEST PEOPLE EVER!
James Cawley

“It’s just great!” RAY BRADBURY

“Great production values and an insightful, emotionally resonant script.” JOSS WHEDON, creator BUFFY, THE VAMPIRE SLAYER

“A major accomplishment. It’s a knockout.” JOSEPH DOUGHERTY, Emmy-winning writer-producer, THIRTYSOMETHING, SAVING GRACE

“It was cracking! I loved it!” PAUL CORNELL, writer, DR. WHO

“Enormously entertaining, and beautifully done.” MEL GILDEN, STAR TREK novelist

“Wow… a major turning point in the history of mass communication! I teach a mass communications class at my college and you’re now part of the curriculum.” PROF. SANFORD FRIES, Chicago

“It really is one of the best classic Treks, not a ‘fan’ film as the others have been, but a real episode -- and the best Sulu one done.” MARV WOLFMAN, creator BLADE

“The final product is very impressive indeed… An emotional story that focuses on a parallel life lived by Sulu following an away mission, it has a genuine feel of classic sci-fi and Trek” STAR TREK.com

“Despite low production costs (in comparison to a studio episode) the NEW VOYAGES production team has brought passion, meaning and good storytelling back to STAR TREK. Thanks for keeping the dream alive.” EUGENE “ROD” RODDENBERRY

“J.J. watch out! Wow. I felt like I was 9 years old again, sitting at the TV and watching Star Trek. Great job.” MARK ROSMAN, director

Well, James, you *know* that every word they said is correct, and totally lacking in hyperbole. They are spot on. It's incredible what you are able to do on a shoestring, and it should be a heads-up to the Big Boys in H'wood that good TV -- and good SF, specifically -- doesn't depend on megabugets, gigantic explosions, ILM facilities, or ego-driven actors.

It *can* be done, and done well. You prove it every time.

Abrams really *should* talk to you -- if only to get an idea of what real Trek is about. Just in case.

Tony

James, I'm glad to see you and your crew getting those well deserved plaudits. I know it means a lot to have the fans praising your work (Trekkers being the tough crowd we know they are) but the praise from those people really should reinforce your desire to keep churning out new work.

I agree with Mark Rosman's comments. I too felt like I was 9 years old again, sitting at the TV and watching Star Trek. My grandmother knew someone who actually had a color TV and we sometimes went there to watch it.
I believe you've succeeded in your plan to begin the creation of a 4th season of the original Trek. Thank you, James.

I was good...but not "a major turning point in the history of mass communication" good. Seriously.

I believe the 'major turning point' that is referred to is the high production values from a non-establishment production distributed in a non-traditional method. It's that studios and networks are being given a run for their money from a non-traditional front. New Voyages is just the first of many examples of quality made-exclusively-for-web content to come from the flood that is the internet . . .

I have never been a huge fan of your New Voyages, but your last EP really changed my mind. You and your group have put a lot of work and passion into this project and it shows.
I am glad to hear that your group is getting the recognition they deserve

EXTREMELY well deserved James!

I see more heart in ALL of your episodes to date than a lot of the crud that was VOY and ENT combined!

I just watched this episode last night and I must admit I was quite blown away.

This is probably the best "Star Trek" fan film ever. It really felt like it could have been a real episode. The writing was just that good.

The use of Takei felt totally organic, a part of the story, not just a cheap, forced gimmick to get a real Trek actor in there.

Whereas many fan films, like "Gods and Men" and even the previous NV episode, "In Harm's Way" (fun though it was) are often just an assortment of old ideas and concepts crammed together out of fanboy adultation, this one actually had an original and heartfelt story. The plot was a bit predictable in spots, but was well thought out and genuinely resonant.

Guest star George Takei delivers a terrific performance, as does guest star Christina Moses (even if the Alana Sulu character was a bit one-dimensional. She was, however, a heluva charmer.)

And kudos to the NV regular cast who, in spite of only a few minor rough patches, continues improve each time out. They have really settled into their roles and I now wholly accept them in their classic characters and don't feel like they're just playing dress up.

however, I am very dismayed that Jeff Quinn will no longer be playing Spock, since I think he has always been a stand out on the series. What happened there? Was he just no longer available?

Anyway, my congrats to the cast and crew for really knocking it out of the park this time. I was very, very impressed.

All I've read about Jeff being Spock is that he was unavailable for this episode. It doesn't mean he won't reprise the role in future depending on scheduling.

Saw a screening of the movie at a con last weekend. The story was interesting, and Takai did very well. But, some of the other actors were a little stilted, which frequently brought me out of my absorption into the story. Otherwise, I enjoyed watching it.

Haven't been able to see this yet - how would you rate the performance of the "new" Spock?

The episode with the new Spock, Ben Toplin, hasn't been released. He is in the two-part "Blood and Fire." Jeff Quinn is still Spock in WEaT.

I am not looking forward to this. From the way he delieverd the line in that teaser he just seemed to blunt and forceful. Plus Quinn has the tall, lean look of Nimoy. The other guy looks a bit shorter and more squat.

This is one aspect of the next episode I am not looking forward to.

From some angles, Ben Toplin has a similar facial structure to Nimoy. While I am a fan of what Quinn does with the role and his delivery, I am also willing to give Toplin a chance. I hope the chemistry between Toplin, Kelly and Cawley is as good as it is with Quinn in the trio.
