The brilliant Una McCormack has chatted to Defcon in a new interview for Unreality-SF.net, marking the release of her latest Deep Space Nine novel, The Never-Ending Sacrifice.

The interview, in which she talks in detail about TNES and her love of the Cardassian race, also touches on her recent Doctor Who short story, and includes the words "Spartacus", "handicap", and "chunks". (I bet you're really excited now.)

“The Cardassians that we see on DS9 are intelligent and cultured people,” she muses, “and I think this makes their nation’s trajectory in the programme very compelling: how does this civilisation end up on a path that almost leads to its destruction? Did it drive out everyone like Natima Lang? Were people too afraid to speak out against what was happening, or did they not see what was happening until too late? We see glimpses of this in the programme, but The Never-Ending Sacrifice gave me the chance to explore these issues in more detail.”

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I'm about half-way through TNES, and if Una McCormack writes more Cardassian stories, I will definitely be picking them up as quickly as possible.
