New Trek Fan Fic Project

Hello, My name is Jeff, I am pretty new to TrekBBS. I am working on two Trek Fan Fic possibilities would like some opinions.

1st Idea
a Intrepid Class Starship searches for a cure to a Borg Nano Probe Virus released on Earth mentioned in Dark Frontier. (Star Trek version of The Last Ship)

2nd Idea
Alternate History
Federation-Dominion Cold War

A Sovereign Class Ship Battles a couple of Son'a Ships. The resulting battle sends the Starfleet ship 200 years into the future. (Yesterday's Enterprise in reverse). Alternate History: Dominion wins the War.
Changes, The events in the DS9 episode "In the Pal moonlight" are leaked. Romulans joins the Dominion in response or launches own war on The Federation. No countermeasure developed against the Breen Energy Dissipator Weapon. (The Ship travel into the Future will fix that.) Qo'noS is Destroyed. Earth is Occupied with 2/3rd of population wiped out.

Should I stay away from the Virus one with current events?

I like the first one. I wouldn't be afraid to tackle a virus-themed one. Good opportunity for social commentary.

I think you should go with whatever one excites you the most. You can always do the other one later, or even weave it into the main story you're doing. For me, I like the simplicity of the virus story more.

I like the first one also but you gotta tell the story you want to tell.

Sci-fi in general and Trek in particular is a great vehicle to examine contemporary events from a different perspective.
