New Trek Crossover?

That would be interesting, especially if CBS saw it as an opportunity to promote their new streaming series.
But Moffat doesn't strike me as quite the nerd that RTD was. That's not a knock on RTD, mind you. It was actually quite endearing in him.
RTD didn't fail to get a crossover made. It was more circumstances didn't allow it to happen. Dr. Who made it's tv come back in 05. The same year Trek was cancelled. Had ENT been renewed for a 5th season, I believe we would've gotten the long awaited Who-Trek crossover.
Trek and Who are funny like that. Who started in 63, and Trek in 66. Trek gets cancelled in 69, but Who continues. Trek comes back in movie form in 1979, and later in tv form in 87, and Who is still on the air. Who gets cancelled in 89, and Star Trek continues for another 16 years before the axe is dropped on Trek again.
Hopefully Trek's return doesn't coincide with Who's cancellation again. Given how Series 9 is going through a rough patch.

Yeah, I think saying Davies failed is an exaggeration. In The Writer's Tale, I don't think the "proposed" crossover goes beyond him telling Ben Cook that he would have tried to do it, but Enterprise was cancelled. There was no serious attempt.
The ancient writings declare that when either Trek or Who is waning, than the other is waxing. So no, there will be no cross-over, as Nu-Who will be cancelled at the start of the third Star Trek Era. But worry not, for nature loves the circle, and Who3 will come in due time. (Though the ancient writings warn that Chris Eccleston won't be returning in Who3, either. : ( )
Eh, leave it to comic books and fanfic, where it belongs.

Thing is, I thought Moffat doesn't like Star Trek? I seem to recall him making derisive comments over the years anyway.
I feel that the Doctor should meet Picard, not Kirk. Given Picard's demeanour, it may turn into a confrontation as infuriating as one with Q, if Q wasn't a total dickhead playing dangerous parlour tricks with the Enterprise like a toy.

Moffat is open to the possibility of a Star Trek crossover. But it has to be Kirk and Spock.

This. Should. Happen. Two of the longest running sci-fi franchises NEED to cross over at least once. I always felt that the Ent ep with that mysterious container that was huge on the inside was laying the groundwork for such a story.

I guess that rules out the Abramsverse, then.
Okay, but seriously, the way I always thought the show could acknowledge the Assimilated-Squared storyline is have the Doctor talking about what a delightful chap Captain Picard is. Whoever he's talking to (I originally imagined it being Clara, but at this point, I guess we'll use whoever becomes the new companion) asks "don't you mean Patrick Stewart?" to which the Doctor replies "no, I mean Captain Picard."
The shape changing robot/ship, the Teselecta, that was featured in "Let's Kill Hitler" and "The Wedding of River Song", there was something very "Kirk-esque" about the commander, the way he leaned in his chair, certain mannerisms (all without outright spoofing Shatner's performance). I could easily imagine the Doctor speaking with Kirk in those scenes. Of course, Capaldi would bring something distinctly his own to such an encounter., but it'sthe closest analogy I can muster at the moment.

I viewed the Teselecta bridge as being a pastiche of Star Trek in general. Maybe the actor playing the captain picked up on this and intentionally channeled Shatner.
