New Theme Music Officially Released

FWIW, I like Johann Johannsson's film music (Arrival, Sicario, etc) much more than John Williams's. Gold's approach is more like Williams. Obviously that works for a lot of people. I'm not one of them.

I miss Segun Akinola already.

I really did like his use of ambient music. The opening title sequence is one of my favorites of Who, and his music really did elevate 13's regeneration to something beautiful vs the typical epic style they've come to be associated with. You can't discount Murray Gold as feeling like quintessential Who, but Akinola has his place too.

Gorgeous work from Murray Gold as ever - so pleased to have good, memorable tracks back in the show! Ruby's Theme in particular is a truly beautiful piece of work - I feel like I already have a sense of what the character is going to be just by listening to it, and the same with "Fifteen". Gold has a real gift for being able to bring the feeling of scenes out in his scores.

He didn't contribute a single memorable piece of music to the series, so I don't.
Agreed - his work literally added nothing to the show, beyond his nice rendition of the theme tune and maybe the Thirteenth Doctor theme, and maybe his work on "Demons of the Punjab". The majority of the rest was just sonic wallpaper and I can't recall a single piece. I think he actually contributed towards that somewhat "flat" feeling people had during the Chibnall era.

Sometimes the sound mixing for Murray's scores could be a bit off - but his work just gets it for me. I literally would listen to his scores in their own right.

It sounds sort of alrightish I guess. Though I'm not gonna make any real judgment until the actual proper version of it is released. As this is more or less just a cover version of it.

Is this the first time there have been voices in the theme (ala the STTOS theme)?
I think it's the fourth.

2005-onwards show Series 5 and 7B themes

1963-1989 show Peter Howell theme. One of the elements in this theme is Howell vocalizing through a vocoder.

Around the 4:38 mark in this video Howell demonstrates the vocalization element.

Around the 16:46 mark in this video he talks about it with a bit more info. Including admitting he wiped his original voice recording due to embarrassment.

They "never throw anything away"

Thanks for that. I'd never have known there were anything like "vocals" in any of those themes. I hope the new theme is exactly as it is in the YT video, I do like the proper vocalizations. Like I said, reminds me of the TOS theme.
