New Theme Music Officially Released

That is pretty damn gorgeous and epic sounding.

I love the looks of sheer joy on the faces of the orchestra members. :D

I still feel Segun Akinola's eldritch tones arguably came closest to the otherworldly aspects of Delia Derbyshire's arrangement, but I figure the goal here is to return to the "familiar" of Russell T. Davies era, so back to the bombastics heralding the "champion of time and space" rather than the leitmotif introducing the mysterious traveler.

This is epic and spine tingling, wow! I know that there is a lot more amazing music to come. Welcome back Murray Gold, you have been missed. :bolian:

Agreed. I feel like that many people don't truly appreciate what he was going for in general. I get why his music style wasn't popular among many fans, but I thought it was always wonderfully otherwordly, which is precisely what you want for Doctor Who.

My issues with Gold were less with his themes and more with the music editing of the show, at the time. Certainly around RTD. But I don't think I ever complained about it in Moffat's era.

Gold is excellent with quiet, somber themes. My issue with him is that he leans too heavily on the loud and bombastic. There's a time and a place for those moments and he did it far beyond those moments.

Like I said, I love this new intro theme (haven't had the chance to listen to the snippets Samurai8472 provided yet) so I'm not adverse to him returning. I just fear he won't restrain himself like before.

The new version of the opening theme is Excellent. As for the Fifteenth Doctor's theme and Ruby's theme, I'm a bit ambivalent on them at the moment, though I suspect they may work better when running with footage from the show than just hearing them on their own. That said, Ruby's theme in particular does show promise and I can easily see that growing on me.

Reading all the comments on the music both here and elsewhere has been it's own kind of time travel, since they're all so very familiar. It's love him or hate him with no real middle ground.

I like to think my view of Gold is pretty in the middle. I love his work, I just find it a tad overwhelming at times

The main theme brought tears to my eyes. The sting that kicks it off is that pure RTD shot of Saturday morning cartoon nostalgia straight to the heart. 15's was ... ok, not a fan of most of it but the final bit that references 11 and 12 hits HARD. I mean, it's nigh on impossible to top 'I Am the Doctor,' so it's hard to fault Gold here for not being able to top himself.

Man, I am bursting with excitement not just for Tennant's return but for the proper launch of 15 and a hopeful return to form for a show that has brought me so much joy and happiness since the 2003 revival.

And here's hoping that they back up a truck of money to Whittaker's door in a few years and give her some good material to work with on a multi-Doctor story because I know when she's got the goods that her Doctor stacks up to the greats. Chibnal's failure to give her something to work with is nothing short of criminal.
