New Sulu/GATT2000 commercial

F. King Daniel

Fleet Admiral

I bumped into this little commercial, starring Sulu and GATT2000/Science Officer 0718:

My friend consulted on that commercial here in NYC.

If you look closely, there is no captains chair :) Paramount didn't want to ship the real one, and wouldn't authorize or pay for a copy to be made.

Anything that helps the NuCast gain more exposure for themselves and the franchise and puts a little extra money in their own pockets is a good thing.

^The lens flares were holographic projections?

They did seem a little bit paranoid about the chair in the Bluray extras for ID, claiming every prior captain's chair in Trek had been stolen.

I just saw this one on tv tonight. Interesting commercial. Maybe a sign they're prepping NuSulu for a bigger role? Probably not. :p

In the next movie, Sulu will appear briefly dressed only in a pair of panties and a bra.

It will be featured in all the trailers.

BTW, I like the floating holograms GATT was manipulating. What is it with 3D holograms on the Enterprise bridge in commercials but not the films?

Well, the commercial isn't canon, (but then again neither is the character.) Perhaps they are previewing something he will do in the next film.

I'm more than certain the commercial has nothing to do with character development or the next movie.

I finally caught the commercial on TV as opposed to the OP's clip. I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment, as well. Exposure is a good thing - and in the case of this ad, there was a good marriage of theme and product. I very much like the idea of keeping the franchise fresh in people's minds.
