New Starship Design

EJD1984

Not long after Enterprise premiered, I thought “What would the generation starship look like that immediately preceded TOS starship we all know?”

I kind of “reversed” engineered backwards, made the ship 30% smaller (since it seems that each new generation grew in size), though kept some engineering/design cues that we’ve seen on other variations – to keep a sense of continuity:
1. Docking Ports in Saucer (NX-01)
2. Docking Ports in Secondary/Engineering Hull (NCC-1701-A)
3. Rec-Deck/Arboretum windows (NCC-1701-A)
4. Lower Tractor Beam Emitter (NCC-1701)
5. Warp Pylons Flush Vents (NCC-1701-A)
6. Blue Warp “Glow” (NCC-1701-D)

I also did a few practical additions:
1. Exterior access panels for Main Engineering to help facilitate upgrades and repairs.
2. Dedicated exterior door directly to the Cargo Bay, just below the Shuttle Bay, to help expedite re-supply.

Plus a host of even smaller details that are way too numerous to mention.

I just thought I’d post this to share with everyone.

Interesting design, I imagine this class of ship would have participated in the battle of Dontu V mentioned in "Trouble with Tribbles" as having taking place twenty years before the time of the episode.

Though, maybe it should look more like the Enterprise from the cage, pins on the nacelles, higher bridge module, etc,

Not a bad looking little ship.

Designation? It strikes me as a frigate, but that's your call.

Primary function? I'd assume police/patrol duties, but.. like above.

Crew? Based upon it "predating" the Constitution, and the fact that the original version of the Connie held a crew of ~200, I'd assume that the crew of this ship was half of that... maybe going up to close to 175 with the introduction of replicators (and the reduction in the need for food and spares storage on board).

Anything else?

I'm always thinking... not "what would look cool" but "why would it be like it is?"
