New Star Trek Series Idea: McCoy (fan pitch)

I rather like this idea for a new Star Trek series set in the future Kelvin timeline which would focus on Dr McCoy. The fan pitch and video is from EC Henry, the creator of the Star Trek fan production Pacific 201.

Karl Urban is the best (though woefully underused) element of NuTrek and I do like the idea of a medical ship being the focus of a series, giving it a whole new spin on what it's primary objectives are, though I do think it would be a little too specialised to really be anything more than a mini-series dealing with one big crisis.

Unfortunately, thanks to STID, death has been cured so they wouldn't really be a lot of tension, all they need to do is synthesize a new batch of Khan blood serum beam it down to a planet and move onto the next.

God, I hated that part of Into Darkness even more than most of the rest of the movie. If Khan was the result of 20th/21st century genetic engineering, you'd think anything his blood could do would be well within the scope of 23rd century medicine.

As for the pitch itself, it's one of those ideas that I think would appeal to Trek fans, but not really to anyone else. It's too narrow a focus for such an established universe. It's like the "West Wing: Federation" idea, or the notion of a civilian-focused series that mostly keeps out of Starfleet affairs. They all have merit to some degree, and will find support on most forums, but no studio would ever green light them, even if Karl Urban can play the hell out of that role and would be an excellent series lead.

At the end of Beyond, with the lost of the Enterprise the audience should've been left in limbo about the future of the crew. Would the alternate universe even commission an 'A'? Would the crew be reassigned to different postings (e.g. Kirk could gotten command of the base, McCoy could've ended up on a medical cruiser, etc)? So that whenever NuTrek 4 comes along it essentially reunites the crew to face whatever it is they will, most likely onboard a newly constructed ship that would become the E-A by the end.

If Paramount suspected that the last Abrams movie was in fact going to be the last, they could have had the last scene not be the fast forward construction of the E-A, but could have broken up the team and sent them on their separate way.

Kirk becomes admiral.
Spock go to new Vulcan to be a spern donor.
McCoy off to serve on a hospital ship.
Sulu to command the Excelsior.
Uhura with Spock? (or not)
Scotty to the Starfleet corp of engineers.
Chekov to chief engineer of another starship.

While it's fine that you'd like to see something like this, it won't happen because CBS is producing Star Trek: Discovery.

If Star Trek Discovery is a success then hopefully there will be more series in the years to come.

I would watch a show about McCoy but I think it would almost have to be like "Lost" where even though you have a doctor as your main character the show wouldn't be about medicine and doctor stuff. Heck I even think you could do Trek's first sitcom around the McCoy character. He is serious enough that the show wouldn't feel stupid but also cranky enough that you can get humor out of him. Maybe a Trek version of "MASH" which does go against my idea of the show not being about medicine but a comedy does sort of change that idea and make it more acceptable. I would even kind of like the idea if Phlox was in the show, which seems very fan ficish but I still think it would work because Denoublians have long life spans and I just think they would play off each other very well.

Karl Urban could play McCoy, even if it'd be the TOS-version of the character; or for that matter leave it intentionally vague. They wouldn't even have to be specific about which Bones it is; just have him mention Jim and Spock a few times and let the audience decide.

Hell, if there was a way to get Bashir and The Doctor involved, that'd be great, too. Not sure how, though, if the story is specifically focused on Enterprise doctors.

You could say Bashir is the doctor of the Enterprise-G or something. No reason why he will be forever posted at DS9 and maybe the EMH is the doctor of a even more future based Enterprise.

As for the alien why not make it Q but Q so far in the future that his species has become mortal again, though they still have powers to use time travel or even pull someone out of a alternate timeline. He choose each of these doctor's because each one of them has been studying the disease he has in each of their timeline and even though they never found a cure they made great leaps in each of their studies. If he has them together they might even be able to solve it and save his life.
