New Series novelization: "Rose"

Fan-made, of course, but surprisingly well done by Christopher Stilson. Very reminiscent of Terrance Dicks' right-to-the-point transcribing, with just enough new material to make it seem new again. Surprised it took this long for someone to try it - it's past time the New Series got their own Target-style line of adaptations! :techman:

Anybody else working on something like this?

Too bad it's unreadable in that format (at least for me). Wish they'd made a downloadable version available; I hate these "flipbook" things.

To my knowledge no one has done any for the new series, though the New Zealand Doctor Who Club self-published their own novelisations for the classic series stories that didn't get done, like City of Death and the first version of a Shada novelisation.

There was also a series of BBC-licensed kids books under the "Bug Club" brand that adapted episodes from Series 5 as "photo novelisations" like Victory of the Daleks:

Not quite the same thing, of course.

I only read the first several chapters, but I'm impressed (it does come across like the old Target books--which is a good thing, IMO). I'm actually one of the old Whovians who wouldn't have minded paperback novelizations of the new show as I don't own any DVDs.

According to this thread on Gallifrey Base, there are fan-written novelizations of New Series episodes. In particular, a novelization of "The End of Time" by Cameron McEwan gets mentioned, though there isn't a link provided to it.

I knew of a project to novelize seasons 1 and 2, but I don't know what ever came of it. I have to admit, I would have been interested in novelizing "The Girl in the Fireplace."

Here's the link to the NZDWFC's fan-written novelisations from the classic series. Some familiar authors. For example. Dave Bishop went on to write Who Killed Kennedy for Virgin after (or perhaps before?) adapting The Pirate Planet, and Jon Preddle, who adapts Revelation of the Daleks, is today the guy behind the BroaDWcast.org broadcast archive website:

Actually, they have Who Killed Kennedy online as well:

Worth noting as the Virgin release is very hard to find and probably costs the GDP of Burundi to buy now.

BTW the link posted above to Gallifrey Base only works if you register for the forum.

I think some of those fan novelizations are in GB's own fanfiction section.

I doubt that - GB are not keen on anything potentially infringing on copyright, be it youtube fan videos or novelisations. For example there was a guy who was showing off his novelisation of Big Finish's 'Sword of Orion' who shortly disappeared from the forum with an explanation that he 'didn't agree with the rules so he chose to leave' - I suspect they asked him to stop promoting it and he said no, so was given the choice of either stopping or leaving...

I have yet to read anything vaguely positive or encouraging about Gallifrey Base.

Given the attitude toward copyright at GB, I'm surprised they even have a fan fiction forum. Fanvids are out, because they infringe on copyright, but fanfic, which also infringes on copyright, is okay?

Do you know if it was this novelization? I can find a link in a different thread on GB to a thread about it, but that thread itself is gone. :)

Not intending to tangent the thread, but I have to agree. I was a member of the Outpost Gallifrey forum but walked away rather than sign up for the new one after OG was discontinued. From what I've heard at times it can make our own TNZ appear by comparison like a bunch of scouts sitting around a campfire singing Kumbaya! ;)

There's character copyright, and music, script, sounds etc.

So your own video calling yourself the Doctor probably fairgame. Play the Ron Grainer theme and it gets more complicated. So its easier just to have a blanket ban.

Never had the slighest problem with Gally, I couldnt attend the events I do without it; its somewhat netural regarding them.
