New Sci Fi Podcast

Captain Norad

Lieutenant Commander

Hi everyone! I was wondering if you would like to give me some input on a new science fiction podcast my friend Chris and I have started. We call it Sci Fi Pipeline.

Each week, we'll talk about some of the top science fiction news headlines of the week, mostly related to films and TV shows. Then, in our main feature, we'll review one sci fi movie or television show...either a film that's in the theater currently, something that's out on disc, or a TV show that recently aired.

Please give it a listen and tell me what you think I've read the posts here on the Trek BBS for a long time, and really respect what you have to say.

Here's our website where you can download episodes or subscribe: http://www.scifipipeline.com/

Our e-mail is scifipipeline@gmail.com

Thanks!

Before I start, let me say nice job. I actually run an interview podcast series professionally so I have a lot of experience in this medium (we get approx 2000 downloads per podcast a month). While the topic is global health, outreach strategies are largely the same.

First of all, the opening speaker has a great radio voice and a generally good presence (Daron). This is a great start. The nice thing about a podcast is that the primarily method of promulgation isn't website traffic, it's RSS distribution. Get that thing on iTunes, Zune, Google, and linked up on sci-fi sites. One great way to promote the site would be to interview people with popular science fiction websites or Twitter followings (and don't sell yourself short, once you start building you could get somebody like LeVar Burton to come on and talk to you guys). You're using feedburner, this is also good (and great for tracking!). Interviews are great because people like to be approached to talk about themselves and their work-- and it's free promotion for you
and your podcast.

Your website leaves a lot to be desired. I would shell this out to a friend or colleague with experience in graphic design and online grassroots organization. The posts themselves are great, but there's a lot missing here. For instance, "Subscribe to this podcast" should be more prominent. This is really your only ask (though down the line you would benefit a lot from a newsletter). There should be an "About" page.

I hope this is helpful, happy to follow-up!

Thank you very much for your input on our podcast, Danoz! It is great to hear from someone with professional experience.

I will take your suggestions to heart. Yes, the website will need some work. I am using Typepad right now and have no web design experience, but I look forward to learning more.

Thanks again for your comments!
