I don't see the point of introducing a new character at this stage which wouold detract from the characters I want to see after 10 years.
Why not bring back an established female character if you need a woman to balance the genders. Personally I'm happy just with the lads back.

I'm guessing she'll be more of a nemesis to Rimmer than anything else. I think there are possibilities in a storyline about another dead crewmember trying to steal Rimmer's runtime.

But they did already have a story like this back in season 1. So I don't see why they need to repeat that.

A bit of both I think. This time it's being produced on behalf of Dave, not BBC 2, so they could be testing the waters to see if their channel can sustain the show for a new series, along with giving the fans a bit of resolution.
