Cult comedy Red Dwarf is returning to TV, 21 years after its initial launch.
The show has been resurrected by digital channel Dave for a two-part Easter weekend special, which sees the cast finally return to Earth.
Written and directed by Red Dwarf co-creator Doug Naylor, the new show reunites the line-up, including Coronation Street's Craig Charles.
The hit show, which ran for eight series on BBC Two between 1988 and 1999, won an International Emmy award.

Can't wait to see this. Didn't see it posted anywhere else.

Re: New Red Dwarf episodes! Two-part Easter special! Whole cast reunit

I'm cautiously looking forward to it. Unfortunately I think it has the massive potential to seriously disappoint.

It's Red Dwarf, post Series 6. Ten years after it ended. Rob Grant still isn't back. On a Dave budget. ...eeeaaarrruuuuughghg I'm just skeptical I guess.

Also:

The new two-part series Red Dwarf: Back to Earth will be followed by a "no holds barred" episode without sets, special effects or autocue.
Say what now? Sounds like "we filmed a rehearsal".

Yeah so anyway I hear they get back to earth but it's all been nuked. Then they find this mechanoid head and...

That's what I thought too.

Believe it when I see it. Literally.

Re: New Red Dwarf episodes! Two-part Easter special! Whole cast reunit

Wow...hope this actually happens since it seems there are always set backs when it comes to Red Dwarf! So if all goes well and this happens then we'll have new Red Dwarf and Doctor Who for Easter!

Re: New Red Dwarf episodes! Two-part Easter special! Whole cast reunit

I believe it's filming now, so at this point I would be surprised if it didn't. Sure at first I was sceptical, and for the intervening months since it was announced I thought it wouldn't end up happening, but now they're filming and it seems all official, I think it's safe to say it's happening.

Re: New Red Dwarf episodes! Two-part Easter special! Whole cast reunit

I think it's picked up enough momentum to be a sure thing at this point.

Whether or not it's a good thing is still anybody's guess.

Re: New Red Dwarf episodes! Two-part Easter special! Whole cast reunit

The article mentions that they get back to Earth - who's thinking that the no holds barred no sets no auto cue etc. is the cast in character interacting with an audience back on Earth asking them questions about their adventures - just a guess but it fits.

Well from what I've read on various websites, there will be 2 more episodes that will come before and after the actual episode. The first will probably be a build up to the new episode, while the second will follow the same suit as Doctor Who Confidential.

There's the 2 parter Red Dwarf: Back To Earth, then this "No holds barred" episode, and a behind the scene ep.

Hey, look at this. Apparently, Alan Rickman and Alfred Molina auditioned for the roles of Lister and Rimmer. Just imagine what that would've been like...
