(here's an excerpt from the article..)

"A crew is almost defined by the essence of the captain. We went through the ringer with Lorca, and so there’s a little bit of PTSD there. There’s a little bit of distrust there because of what we’ve gone through and because we had someone who manipulated us and sought to kill us for his own gain. And so, Pike being the deeply rooted good guy he is, he is going to have an effect on us. He’s soothing in that way. He’s comforting in that way. And hopefully you will see us sort of galvanize because of that."

It mostly reiterates that Season-2 is going to be much lighter in tone.

And I just discovered that I graduated from high school a year before Doug Jones did.

I would imagine that he'll probably be just as 'laid back' as he appeared in TOS.
Which could be interpreted as being boring, I guess.

He never came across as laid back to me in "The Cage". Now, if you're talking about Wheelchair Pike in "The Menagerie", we're in trouble!

only if he's a head on a box with a blinking lightbulb
even then, they can have him blow up Space Gus Fring a few seasons down the line..

I think this just reinforces that to the audience the Captain IS the lead. I get that as a viewer.

I imagine Pike will only be there for the season, so I hope Burnham or Saru are groomed for Captaincy in S3.

saru has my vote, but i like that the series is (ostensibly) set from the POV of a non-captain.

either way, i really hope the show stops playing game of thrones with the captain's chair and settles into its identity. unless that is its identity...

^ I still vote for elder Captain Janeway who acts like Red following Pike!

I hope this lighter tone will include senior officer meetings and like...you know, senior officers!
