Hi there.
I've decided to give STO a good go.

I've never spent much on pc hardware, and so even something with minimal (by modern standards) requirements as been a bit of a push to run nicely.

But, I now have a Ryzen laptop and it runs great.

I'm trying a character in TOS era initially.

Is the game popular?

Is there a good community on here with players who are invested in the game?

I'm willing to put in some serious effort to get to know the game.

There's a frequently traveled thread here: Giving STO Another Try that has a number of players contributing. There used to be a TrekBBS fleet, but I don't know if it's still running. It is a popular game, but it's been kind of buggy in the past few years. I use an XBox and, as I understand it, a number of achievements are no longer available due to buggy code. I'm glad I got all mine in when I did. It seems COVID did quite a number on the developer staff.

In any case, so long as you're not an achievement whore like me, you should be fine. It still has a lot of really cool things to it, including voice-overs from original show actors, some who are now sadly deceased (Nimoy, Auberjonois, Eisenberg, etc). I still play it daily to boost my Endeavor scores.

Thanks for linking me to that thread.
