I don't think that's an X-Wing. it's close though.

Or the previous one-The Z-95 Headhunter which appeared in the EU was based on the same concept work (Although usually without the split wings); and still technically canon as it appears in "Clone Wars" (Although somewhat modified)

Wouldn't be the first time either that both the EU and movies have reused concept art. A Ralph Mcquarrie or Joe Johnston concept for what became the Imperial Walkers was used by the EU as the "Juggernaught" but also made an appearance in ROTS (where it was marketed as "Turbo Tank" to avoid confusion with the Marvel comics villain)

I'd be more inclined to figure it was based on McQuarrie's design, much like another aspect of the first set of leaked photos with the gate... thing... coming from another McQuarrie painting. Plus the ship in that picture appears to have split wings. The Z-95 doesn't.

Also I never liked the Headhunter.
