New Max Payne Trailer (2nd one)

Looks fantastic Trailer

However I think they should tone down the SCI FI elements in the trailer or the general public who have not played the game could mis understand the movie for a SCI FI thriller, when infact its not (there just dream/halluncations).

Well its better be dream/hallunications as in the game.

As I said before: I am cautiously optimistic about this movie.

Like a wild animal tempted with food, I will approach theatres with caution, ready to flee at the first negative review.

I'm a huge fan of the Max Payne games and for the life of me can't understand why we haven't seen another.

That said, Being a fan of the games makes me seeing the movie an automatic view.

I will however say by what I'm seeing in the previews makes this movie look like a remake of Constantine.
I enjoyed Constantine quit a bit and own it on DVD but that type of story has absolutely nothing to do with Max Payne's story.

Wait, so this movie ISN'T about evil angels abducting people? I just lost all interest. Friggin' misleading trailers. I was wondering about that b/c I'd heard of the game and didn't think it had any paranormal elements to it.

Have only played snipets of the game but the trailers for this movie have been most excellent and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I have been searching for information on the angels. No one knew anything about them. Whew. Okay, I'm good.

Yeah, wow. If I didn't know anything about the games that's exactly what I'd think. I mean, it's still a cool trailer but, it seems woefully misleading.

The "Angels" are hallucinations of Valkyre, the warrior maiden goddesses who brought the spirits of dead warriors to Valhalla, the Viking afterlife. In the game the narcotic drug "Valkyr" was named after this. The whole game is filled with homages and allegory to Viking myth.

Correct.
Another part of the game takes place in a night club called Ragnarok.

Ragnarok was the final destiny of the Norse Gods including a great battle that ultimately lead to the deaths of Odin, Thor, Loki and a few others.

This may finally top Tomb Raider as the best game to movie adaptation. Of course, the bar is fairly low, but still.

Interesting you should bring that up because that was exactly the impression I got from the trailer and I was like "HUH? I don't remember that in the game."

I think we had a thread here a week or so discussing this. I raised the issue about the sci fi/horror aspect and how I didn't remember that at all from the game. (Granted it's been a long time since I played the game.) Then someone pointed out what you just said, that it was part of dreams/hallucinations.

So if a guy like me who actually played the game (albeit eons ago) got a sci fi/horror vibe from the trailer, what must the general public think?

There's a whole lot of it:

takes place at night during a seemingly endless snowstorm, and contains many references to Ragnarok, the Norse end of the world, during which the world is swallowed by snow and darkness. One of the levels takes place in a night club called Ragna Rock. While inside of Ragna Rock, Max comes across a book entitled The Age of Murder and Storm, which mentions "Norse mythos and Ragnarok". Max himself wears a Sun cross pendant, the symbol of the chief Norse god Odin, known for his prowess in battle.
Many of the characters and objects in the game are named after Norse gods; the drug that forms the basis of the plot is called Valkyr, after the goddesses who brought slain heroes to Valhalla, a name given to another location in the game. Max Payne's partner is named Alex Balder (Baldr), while the Senator Alfred Woden is named after Wōden, the Anglo-Saxon version of Odin. The chief corporate villain in the game is Aesir Corporation (after the Æsir), while the headquarters of the Inner Circle is the Asgard Building. The secret network used by the creators of Valkyr is called Yggdrasil, after the great ash tree believed to support the world.
Also:
-Jack Lupino describes himself as "Fenris The Wolf".
-Vladamir Lem obviously taking on the persona of Loki in Max Payne 2

I guess this is their equivalent of the wacky dream sequences from the games... but I totally get you. I haven't played the games in a while and I thought it was some weird fantasy thing as well.

Ah, I didn't know they were on there. It might make too much sense for them to drop the price of those games when the movie comes out.

At $15 for the two, I couldn't resist! I'm about to enter Ragna Rock in the first one, which I'm pretty sure was the genesis of my hatred of cultists in video games :p
