Richard Jefferies has just informed me that his biography of his brother Matt, designer of the original Enterprise, is now available.
Because of Matt's service in World War II as a B-17 flight engineer and his long history of aviation illustration, Richard had hoped that Zenith Press, the military history publisher I work for, would be interested in publishing the bio. And we had featured some of Matt's aviation drawings in a book called How to Draw Aircraft Like a Pro. But Richard couldn't have imagined that his pitch would fall into the lap of a raving Trek fan and occasional Trek writer!
As much as I would have liked to work on this, I could immediately see that it didn't really fit into our publishing line. So I had to say thanks but no thanks, gave Richard all the advice I could, and wished him luck.
The book is illustrated with lots of Matt's work from his years as an aviation illustrator and during his work in Hollywood. Star Trek is just one chapter in Matt's life story. Check it out at Richard's website, http://www.mattjefferies.com/.
