New iPod Models?

Recently my iPod nano (2Gen) bit the dust prematurely, but luckily I purchased a 2 year warranty to cover it. I'm receiving a check soon for the price I paid to use on a new iPod.

My question is if they are updating the line again this fall. I'd rather wait to spend my money then buy one now if they are.

I haven't heard anything about new iPods. There's a lot of noise about an iPhone upgrade in the next month or so. It's possible there'll be an iPod update at the same time, if only just a capacity bump or price change.

My 5G iPod is about to fill up, but I'm waiting as long as I can before replacing it (I'm interested in the iPod Touch, but it doesn't have enough capacity to hold all my stuff). So I'll be paying attention to this thread as well. :)

Particularly here in Australia, where we don't have the Iphone as yet, everyone is waiting for the 3G iphone (as opposed to the current GSM only model). Current words is that Steve Jobs will reveal it at his keynote address at WWDC on June 9, and it will possibly be available worldwide on the same day. This time round it's likely not to be tied to only one provider (as in AT&T in the US). In Australia, at least two telco's have announced they will have it, and another rumour says you will be able to buy it outright and unlocked so it will work on any network from Apple themselves. Also it's hotly rumoured to have GPS this time around as well.

I could see a new nano model with a full touch screen extending to the click wheel, which will now be in the touch screen. Ofcourse this eliminates any choice of color preference(red, silver etc) Maybe around the border

Think of it as a mini ipod touch, probably not far in the future either lol

A few predictions might be fun: -

We will see a final iPod Classic - with 160GB and 320GB models.
The Nano will get bigger flash drives.
The Touch will get a bigger widescreen and come in 32GB and 64GB models.

Just guesses - I have a feeling iPhone is more important than iPod to Apple at the minute but they will refresh the range.

Is there actually any question that this will happen? If I'm not mistaken, Apple upgrades the iPod line on a fairly regular basis so the next-best thing is ALWAYS on the horizon.

Well of course there is always one on the horizon, but if you recall we had a 2 year wait between the 5th and 6th generations of Ipod Class as opposed to the usual one year wait. I doubt it if we see new ones this year, but next year for sure.

I just got a new iPod Classic (160 gigs) a few weeks ago, and couldn't be happier with my purchase. At this point, I'm not really sure what more they could add to the "classic" model, beyond more HD capacity. I have about 40 gigs of music, and now I'm working on loading all my DVDs on too...but I'm starting to realize that at no point will I NEED to have my entire music and video library with me at all times. I've rationalized that by thinking I can never be sure what I want to listen to or watch at any given moment, so why not play it safe and bring along everything I have?
