New FARRAGUT episode is SPECTACULAR!!!

Wow--leaps and bounds is clearly the way fan productions are made one after the other--and such is the case with Starship Farragut on their second adventure.

I enjoyed the locations and the scenery. The performances have all been wratcheted up several notches and no doubt they will continue in a positive direction. These characters are so well developed that its easy to appreciate the performances we've already seen, because the characters are so easy to like and feel comfortable with.

The story is incredible and, being a history buff, there was more than one scene that gave me chills. Being a Star Trek fan, the ending will, no doubt, send chills through all Trekdom--simply awesome and so believable.

The cinematography is also several notches above where it was in "The Captaincy" and where the first episode had washout lighting on the bridge scenes, this is darker--too dark in places, but its clear to see they're on the right track. I expect we'll see improvement in this area as well in their coming multi-part adventure: "Fathers and Sons."

The music has taken some real leaps too. The variation on Joe Seguin's theme is now regal, richly drawn and has a fuller bodied sound. The variations make it more sophisticated. Hats off to Hetoreyn for taking something familiar and richly wrapping it up and delivering it in such a lushly textured way.

All in all, a superb effort that shows the skill and experience the Farragut team is storing up.

Warp speed ahead gang!

Cheers--

This episode doesn't yet appear to be downloadable from that website... Is there a link somewhere that I'm missing?

Is this [actually] new? I've been dropping in here, and don't recall any threads annoucing a new ep from any of the creators...

It looks like the second episode premiered in October, with an internet release "pending". I guess that it has now pended. :)

MacTrek, has had a personal tragedy in his life this past weekend, he is the one who usually does all the promoting and takes care of there site, that is why you have not seen his usual promotions, so we (Mike from NEO/fx, myself and others) are helping him a bit with that, to get eh film mirrored and the word out. :)

Oh, yes, this is a really great Star Trek Film, and i indeed must absolutely agree with this, the last scene is especially awesome.

I really wish, that i could hope for Star Trek 11 to be as good.

Just finished watching it. I'll post a more detailed review later, but I will say it did my nerd heart good to see names from several of the other fan films listed in the credits. Bailey, Johnson, Cawley... Nice.

And yes, that last shot, coupled with the voice-over and music was incredibly well done.

Hadn't been aware of this project until now. I'm in the middle of the first episode. Decent effort; my biggest gripe is enunciation issues. The captain in particular tends to blur syllables too much.

Not bad. I agree that the person playing the Captain, while not horrible, could work on speaking a bit more clearly; and it would be nice if he could 'act' a little more, as in some scenes it did seem he was just reading the script instead of act the script in character; but again, it wasn't a horrible job.

If anything, you guys might want to consider getting sone of the folks from that re-enactment group. Of them, the person playing Washington; and the soldier describing the battle of Bunker Hill were the best of the lot - and struck a better balance of staying in a character while performing the script.

The story was good (although I think time travel is over-used in Star Trek - thanks more to the later series than TOS, but still...); but it was a bit long - although like others have mentioned, the final scene was interesting (if you like a bit of fanwank - but I do, so it wasn't an ssue for me).

Overall, I did enjoy it; and I feel this group and the guys doing Starship Exeter; while not as polished in the post production areas as the New Voyages are in some respects; still give overall a better 'Star Trek' experience because they are not trying to re-interpet and re-invent the original TOS characters; but are introducing different, yet fully developed characters, into the TOS fictional era - and I personally find that more satisfying to watch, even if they can't get the original series cast members to do cameos.

Good job. Look foward to the next one.

I alway's like it when fan films can get out on location.

Actually, I prefer they DON'T.

Most fan film "locations" look like "dad's back yard" to me, I'm afraid.

or, if your a Stargate fan, constantly in the Vancouver woods.. :) I do applaude there efforts for getting off the ship though. Also i like the characters and there chemisty, once the acting gets more comfortable (as it is staring to do with NV now) they will be even more interesting . Interestingly enough they dont have a token alien main character, but thats ok. My only plot nickpick was the attempt to show the camp it was 'swamp gas' was a bit to stretched out and it slowed the pacing a bit. Also the set shots were terrific.

Congratulations to the Farragut Films crew on their second episode. I really enjoyed the story, and especially thought the last scene was a great touch. The acting is still rough around the edges, but that will improve with time. I like the camaraderie between the main cast members, and even the doctor and the red shirts were more than cardboard cutouts.

There were some technical issues that I found a bit distracting - framing, over-exposure in some scenes and under-exposure in others, and audio. I'm sure these will also improve with time. The important thing is that they told a good story and kept their audience entertained. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

I have to agree it was enjoyable...an improvement over their first outting.

The biggest improvement was the simplicity and speed at which I was able to download it. Somehow you guys have the other fan films beat on that issue despite their experience. It is extremely refreshing to be able to to sit down and watch the whole thing in the same day that you download it. Hints to the other fan films.

Although I'm growing tired of time travel stories, this one kept my attention more than most. The legend of Jersey Devil was a humorous touch.
