New fans with Discovery

Has anyone here met someone who just started watching Star Trek with Discovery? What did they think? Are they looking forward to future episodes?

My buddy Tim has never watched a Trek series regularly. He has seen all the movies though.

He liked it. He subscribed to CBSAA to watch it. I haven't gotten ton of feedback from him though. Just a text Monday morning haha!

I managed to rope one colleague into watching. She'd only seen a few episodes of TOS and the Kelvin films.

She really enjoyed it, though she thought the scene at the end was silly.

I know a couple of people who are starting Trek with Discovery and a few more who have only seen the new movies and are hopping aboard. It's not totally uncommon in my age group.

Responses from the above have been decent to positive thus far.

I don't know anyone who's started with Discovery. I know some who started with Trek 2009.

I don't really know any other Trekkies.

Tried watching Discovery with a few friends, but their reaction was pretty much: "Meh.."

Yeah my wife hated it.

Most of the geeks I know geek out on other things like anime and whatnot, which is OK

Then I find out they geek out on those stupid funco pop things,

It's funny, because besides Star Trek, Star Wars and some other hardcore sci-fi stuff (2001, Bladerunner, Ex Machina, Sunshine, Mad Max) I don't get into any of the other stuff people geek out about.

I can't stand anime, fantasy (GoT is the lone exception- hate Peter Jackson's 95 hours of LoTR stuff, etc), superheroes (seriously...I'm on the other side of the world from most people on this one), transformers, etc. Like...I have zero appreciation for any of that. None.
