Here's the theory...there was a third ship that went back in time in the 24th century...a Ferengi ship.

That ship went back and resurrected/continued some of the capitalistic "throwbacks" of earth, such as Nokia & Budwiser.

So any new product placement can be chalked up to that.

And instead of the usual Ship Earth/Galaxy/Life-as-we-know-it-will-be-destroyed threat that usually happens, we can have the Ferengi as the main villains...

Here's my theory to explain away the blatant product placement in the new Trek movie.

There was no blatant product placement.

We saw an antique comm/media system in an antique car and heard a old Earth drink ordered in a bar.

That's it.

Here's my theory: Lots of companies have been around for a long time. So will Nokia and Budweiser.
