Borrowed form B9 on the ASAP/Starships and Other Transports forum:

IESB posted a brief report on J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Trek movie, in which they talk about new rumors regarding the production.

According to the site, "what about the beloved spaceship, the Enterprise NCC 1701? Is it going to look like the ship that we remember from the original show and films?"

"Nope." wrote IESB "We have been told that the Enterprise has been redesigned. I have not been able to get specific details of how the old and new ship will differ but I have been told by multiple sources including people working on the film that the ship will indeed be different."

The IESB editor continues saying "I'm a little lost for words, I always expected that the inside of the ship would be redesigned for the new film but that the actual look of ship, the hull, nacelles, saucer would remain intact. This is one report that I hope that we are wrong about but all indications are that we are not."

IESB also confirmed that actor Karl Urban has been offered the role of "Bones" McCoy, as reported by Trek Movie Report.

This information is preliminary, of course, and entirely rumor.

Sorry if it's a rerun, or a spoiler.

I'm not excited by this report

 :)

Bit of old news, but the extent of the redesign seems to get more and more in each report. Although I'm not at all adverse to a modernisation and changing bits of the design, I would myself by wary of altering the core silhouette, it's one of the most recognisable Trek things, to fans and joe public alike.

Actually I expect the core silhouette WILL be the same. But different fans will probably look at the other changes in different ways.

Just like some people looked at the SR costume and either saw something radically new and different, or something that was the same basic design as always.

I don't expect the ship will look EXACTLY the same. I suspect there will be some sort of redesign. But I don't expect the Enterprise to be unrecognizable as such to even the casual fan.

Looking at what "they say" I'm not sure if they're talking about the outside or the inside. It could mean anything from "We've replaced the blinking lights with Linux" to "we've glued a third nacel to the ship". I can't tell anything from such cagey statements.

Well, Orci told Trekmovie.com the design is more faithful to TOS Enterprise than folks may think. Trekmovie.com has also confirmed that the basic sacuer, secondary hull, and two engine nacelles exist.

But, just in case, when renderings do leak out, has anyone registered the theEnterpriseisnottheEnterprise.com domain name, yet?

I'm just going to the core of the matter and registering extrekkie.com...

Interesting that it doesn't reference the recent Sinise rumors.
Well, this website just isn't as plugged into the Trek movie news like you are. You're Trek news junkie.

As long as it looks like the Enterprise I don't care if the nacelles can rotate. It is an unimportant detail. The Defiant looked great in the MU Ent episodes and that's what they will most likely have. I think the characters' stories are going to be much more important than any issues with the ship design. That said, I'd walk out of the theatre if they did "glue on another nacelle".
Actually, I would stay to see how they explain going from that to the Where No Man Has Gone Before design.

I'm more interested in what they are going to force the cast to wear; those velor shirts were really sweatacular I understand.

So which First Contact ship do you think the redesigned Enterprise will resemble? I'm thinking Steamrunner class.

Before everyone has too many heart attcks, rotating nacelles could mean nothing more than how they brussard collecters used to appear to rotate in the original series.

Isn't it Bussard Collectors?
