New Dirk Pitt novel in November

^

Yes, as a matter of fact I have all of Doherty's Area 51 series, though I kinda stopped at Nosferatu. Good adventure reads, and there are some similarities to the Event Group novels, but I actually like Golemon's work better. His characters seem to be a bit more real, to me (despite the fantastic circumstances of the stories).

Thanks for the tip on the Event series Procutus I pick up Event this afternoon and will crack into it this weekend!

You're welcome, Kirby! Keep me posted on how you like it.

I'm just finishing Terry Brooks' The Gypsy Morph tonight, then digging into Ancients.

An update on Ancients for those who were interested in the Event Group series. I'm on page 284 and this has turned into a pretty good read, despite having a number of startling similarities to the novel I'm currently working on. I like these characters a lot, but I think I liked the first two novels better, though I'll reserve judgement until I get to the end.

No spoilers here, but the action is good and getting relentless, which makes for a good read.

For me, the Dirk Pitt books are great to read while waiting for an airplane - mindless fun that's pretty formulaic with some forced dialogue, but on balance an enjoyable way to kill a couple hours at a time waiting for and being on an airplane.

I'll pick the new one up and I'm interested in the Event Group series as well.

I've got high hopes for the new one, considering the historical material he's delving into this time. I'd also like to see one where both Pitt and Kurt Austin shared the story - not just a cameo scene like Pitt and Al have done in the NUMA series.

For those I got interested in the Event Group series, I just finished Ancients last night. It turned into one hell of a roller-coaster ride, and something that happened at the end kinda caught me by surprise. Definately didn't see that one coming, but at the same time, it was pretty clear that Golemon was setting up things for the next one.

Although these novels are stand-alones, I do think it helps to read them in order, if only for the way the characters develope.

Good stuff.

For all fans of Clive Cussler's fiction, the 20th Dirk Pitt novel, Arctic Drift will be released Thanksgiving weekend. Rumor has it that it deals in part with the lost Franklin Expedition.

I have been reading CLIVE CUSSLER books for years...before they even found the Titanic!!!...great news about a Dirk Pitt book...I have never read the other books because there can only be one hero of Cussler's books and its Dirk Pitt!!!

I finished Treasure of Khan last week and doubt I'll give th new oner a go - it was the same cookie cutter story template from the last 10 books. Ended up skipping sections because I knew what would happen it the bit I didn't read. And the writing has definitely gone down in quality, odd words used in descriptions, that kind of thing. Very disappointed.

I agree...I think Cussler's best days are behind him...but when he was good he was good..VIXEN 3, Raise the Titanic, Iceberg, and some of those other early ones were his best, IMO....

Golemon's series is currently comprised of three novels: Event, Legend and the newest one, Ancients. The series deals with a secret group in the government, Deptment 5656, also known as 'The Event Group'. They are tasked with finding and preserving various artifacts from key historical 'events' and preserving them for a better understanding of how history plays out. The first novel dealt with Roswell in a way that was so gripping, it gave it a totally different spin than any other story about Roswell I've ever read.

Finished Event last night. It was the first book in a long time that I couldn't put down. I set out to only read for a half hour or so, nearly 2.5 hours later I was finishing it and it was going on 1am

Looking to pick up Legend and get started on it. The only downside is that there are currently only 3 books available.

Wouldn't have known about them were it not for the recommendation here. Thanks :bolian:
