New audio dramas with Shanks and Black

I'm surprised I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere here yet (or I missed it). This month, Big Finish productions is issuing a box set of Stargate SG-1 audio dramas starring Michael Shanks and Claudia Black:

This is actually the overall series page; the new box set is listed under the "Coming Soon" banner but it's possible folks might not realize these exist. As I understand it the first few releases were more or less story readings, but the Shanks/Black productions are full-cast audio dramas along the lines of BF's Doctor Who series.

I'd mentioned it in the "SG1 to return?" thread, thinking it might be about these audios, but no there was never really an announcement/discussion thread.

Oh, is this finally happening? Awesome.

Yeah - Big Finish has become a white knight for a lot of franchises, including Highlander, Sapphire and Steel, Blake's 7 and even Dark Shadows. But the only press they tend to get is Doctor Who-related.

It's only a shame they haven't been able to get the rights to Star Trek. We'd have probably had cast reunions coming out the ying-yang for years.

Big Finish is a reliable company. They usually only announce productions if they're a guaranteed done deal or have actually already been DONE. There's been a handful of occasions where release dates have been pushed back, but that's usually only when some major technical problem arises. Claudia Black in particular has made a second career out of doing voiceovers (I just finished playing Dragon Age: Origins in which she does the voice of Morrigan) so recording an audio drama is old hat for her. Apparently this was a true international production - normally BF brings the actors into their studio in the UK, but in this case they set up Skype links and had the actors in various studios in North America record their lines, too.

I think stuff like this doesn't get much attention because not much of the fandom cares about the non-canon stuff.

^^Is that the reason for this thread's lack of activity, or is just that barely anyone on Trek BBS bothers with the Stargate forum anymore?

Obviously enough people must have cared about the non-canon audio books in order for Big Finish to think it worthwhile to go and do a full audio drama.
