New aliens or old aliens?

Example: the Sycorax colony in my Eugenics books...

Sycorax? Sorry but I have to ask - was there a swordfight? :D

As to the thread: I mostly prefer learning more about old aliens, one of the attractions for me of "Worlds of DS9" and the Typhon Pact.

The name "Sycorax" has been around since Shakespeare wrote The Tempest, where it was the name of the witch who was Caliban's mother. The Doctor Who aliens you're alluding to were named after that Shakespearean character, though a later DW episode claimed the reverse. And of course Greg named his colony Sycorax years before DW used the name.

I really should read/see The Tempest. I figured it was something like that, I'd just never run into the name anywhere else.

Well of course. Timey-wimey wibbly-wobbly. ;)
