New ALCARS Project..

K'riq Sa

Hi Guys,

As most of you know I am working on a Starfleet Rangers Fan Flick series. I am working on the computer interface, or the LCARS style that I am considering using. LCARS stands for Library Computer Access and Retrieval System, I am considering updating and going with the ALCARS style GUI, which stands for Advanced Library Computer Access and Retrieval System. I feel the new GUI (graphic user interface) should reflect the new innovations and concepts currently being demostrated, as the future of the LCARS GUIs. For one, the incorporation of new style of interactive technology as can be viewed here:

How do you integrate this into the LCARS GUI and still have the Star Trek feel and make it just the next natural incarnation.

Here are the original early concept LCARS art for the S.S. New York

one of the ships in the Ranger series we are toying with, but now I want to go to that next level.

This LCARS artwork was graciously produced and provided by Jose Ralat who's other awesome work can also be found on this board here TNG & Voyager LCARS. And the ship design is by Alex and the model by BLAXXER. More Ranger LCARS can be found >>>> HERE <<<<.

In my concept, the stations and consoles all remain the same except they are integrated with the updated Interactive GUI technology in somewhat of a HUD type manner.

So what do you think? Good idea? Bad idea? any comments, suggestions?

I think your ship design is too cool to be straitjacketed by the Star Trek universe. Write an original story and go wild with all-original designs and an all-original universe!

Just sayin... :)

AS far as the interactive technology fitting in with TNG's LCARS, I do not see any contradiction or problem with it "fitting in".

We really didn't see that much of the interaction between Enterprise-D crewmembers and their control panels during the series. One notable exception was during "Redemption II", or thereabouts, when O'Brien filled in at Tactical on the Bridge during Worf's absence. During the anti-Romulan blockade, I seem to recall O'Brien being clearly shown interacting with his station. This was rare in any TREK, even TNG.

Sorry, working on that right now. My checking account was comprimised and had to be dumped and reset. Still suffering from the fallout.

Well Merry Christmas and Good Luck :)

Hmmm.. that ship looks like some wonderful clash of ENT and the Defiant, served with some Spaceflight Chronology sauce. I like it. Including the Civil War era smokestack on top ;)
