I don't see a thread for this show yet and it looks like promotion is about to start heating up.

It's an original series with 12 episodes this first season created and produced by J. Michael Straczynski and the Wachowski siblings (collectively "Unpronounceable Productions"). The IMDB blurb is:

A group of people around the world are suddenly linked mentally, and must find a way to survive being hunted by those who see them as a threat to the world's order.

But more than that, the show will explore questions of identity, sexuality and religion.

The show was filmed in San Francisco, Chicago, Iceland, Berlin, Nairobi, London, Mumbai, Mexico and Seoul and has a truly international cast including Naveen Andrews, Freema Ageyman Aml Ameen and others. What we know of the characters is:

THE SENSATES (the group connected telepathically):

Riley - Icelandic DJ - played by Tuppence Middleton

Will - Chicago cop - Played by Brian J. Smith

Kala - Mumbai pharmacist - played by Tena Desai

Nomi - San Francisco blogger - played by Jamie Clayton

Capheus - Nairobe bus driver - played by Aml Ameen

Wolfgang - Berlin safe cracker - played by Max Riemelt

Lito - Mexican actor - played by Miguel Angel Silvestre

Sun - Seoul businesswoman - played by Doona Bae

Additional characters are:

Jonas - good guy - played by Naveen Andrews

Mr. Whispers - villain - played by Terrance Mann

There was a big press junket yesterday and JMS just posted on FaceBook that the trailer will be coming out in less than a week.

Really looking forward to this.

The names are memorable enough that I know Tuppence Middleton and Doona Bae have worked with the Wachowskis before FWIW. I wonder if their work on Cloud Atlas inspired this project with the interconnected people in different locales being reminiscent of that.

It may be a long-standing interest. The first time JMS mentioned this project was back in 2007 and that they'd been working on it for about a year. It didn't go anywhere then because too much would have had to be changed if it were sold to one of the networks available then.

JMS made a post on Facebook last year that certainly made me take notice. Here are some excerpts:

For 23 years I’ve kept every promise I ever made online. Which is why I don’t make many of them. I want to be *sure* before I open my yap.

...

And now that we’re about a month from the end of shooting on season one of Sense8, with vast amounts of the footage now in hand, I’m sufficiently confident with what we’re doing to make another promise.

Sense8 is going to debut on Netflix in 2015. And it is going to change the way you see television, in terms of production values, storytelling, scope, scale, and action. All of it.

We are going to tell a story on a planetary scale. No cheats. In ways no one else has ever done before.

We are going to treat subjects that most TV series, and pretty much all SF series have avoided.

We are going to present visuals and action in ways that you have simply never, ever seen before. Anywhere.

In 2015 we are going to blow the doors off the television business.

Count on it.

The official Sense8 Twitter feed is doing something fun. Counting down to (presumably) the trailer in some of the various different languages that match countries where the show was filmed.

https://twitter.com/sense8

Today was 'just two now' in Hindi. Yesterday was 'three' in Spanish and day before was 'four' in Swahili.

Looks like Thursday's the day!

Sounds like an interesting premise (similarities with Heroes)

I like the idea of more shows with an international flavour

It is so great that Netflix is starting to get some original science fiction programming.

Now to see if they'll end up eventually doing an epic space opera. ... season six of Clone Wars notwithstanding. :)

Great interview with lots of information.

I've watched it a couple of times more and I'm loving what I see. It makes it abundantly clear that all eight experience what all of the others do. What a trip! Can't wait to meet the characters in more depth. I already like Naveen Andrew's character - and learn everybody's names.

Word is that #Sense8 it trending on Twitter. That's a good thing.

Original concept. A good writer. Masterful film making duo. A solid looking cast, with several faces familiar to genre fans.

We'll have to see how well it's executed, but yeah, colour me intrigued.

The premise is intriguing and the trailer was pretty great. The only thing that makes me a little nervous is the fact that I read an interview where the Wachowskis were talking about how they were free to do pretty much whatever they wanted, the example they used was filming a live birth. First of all I'm not a big fan of seeing that, but it also makes me a little nervous that they were given that much freedom. Sometimes that can lead to awesome stuff we could never see otherwise, but it can also lead to complete disaster where we see the creators going nuts just throwing everything they can think of onto the screen. I'm hoping we get the former, but there's always a chance this could end up being the later.

I'm not 100% certain about this mind but I'm at least 95% certain that there's a specific reason for showing the birth. One of the things that came out in earlier publicity is that every one of the sensates in this cluster are all exactly the same age. Given that information, it's likely that it's a valid story point.

JMS linked to another article here. I like this part:

JMS said:
“None of the three of us are fans of superficial storytelling,” says Straczynski. “If you want to go deep in character, philosophy, politics or religion, you need time. You need to have the room to do that.”

I'm so doomed. Not only do I have to work on the fifth, I've also got to work on the sixth with no chance of getting out of it. I wanted to binge-watch my first show as soon as it came out.

Deja Vu having "Sayid" from Heroes in there. I'm not completely sold as yet but definitely seems to be worth a look.

Nice one, but I am a bit worried, that they didn't have the time to clean the footage from wires and cameras for this trailer.

Sorry, the TIMG tag does not seem to work.

No need to worry. That shot is of one of the characters who's an actor in a telenovela shooting his show. It's very deliberate and deliberately obvious.
