Nero's Klingon attack

mythme

because the scene was editied out, and because reference to it served mostly to allow Uhura to translate the message and alert Kirk that Nero had returned - what exactly transpired at Rura Penthe? Who attacked whom? Did Nero throw the first punch, and if so, why? and how did he get himself captured, as pictures from the deleted scene show (if there is a concrete answer to this at this time.) Or did the Klingons engage the Narada, biting off more than they could chew?

This is one of the things I'm sort of glad they deleted, because something tells me the sequence would open up more plot holes. The potentially big one being this: if Nero was in Klingon custody, it means either:

a) he was separated from the Narada at some point in the intervening 25 years and his crew waited to come get him, or;
b) the entire crew was captured by the Klingons along with their ship.

Option b is the bigger problem, because it beggars the question, why the hell didn't the Klingons rip the Narada apart to find out how it worked, and why would it be anywhere near where the prisoners were being kept?

The only way it would make sense to me would be if Nero and some of his crew were captured while separated from their ship (maybe while scrounging for parts to repair their ship) and left orders for the Narada to lie low and not to risk exposure until they were sure Spock was about to show up.

If they thought it through that much, it would be awesome - but on the other hand, I can see why they wouldn't put all that in the movie, as it's a distraction from the main plot.

Of course we didn't see it, we have no way of knowing how it went down.

I like how the scene wasn't shown onscreen. I think the whole movie would have been better if it was left offscreen.

why attack the klingons, anyone remember What you Leave Behind, last i checked our realations with the Klingons was very good, very close allies. So if i wanted to hurt the Federation id hurt the Klingons also because maybe he feels Federation allies are just as guilty

The thing I'm more wondering is how the Narada was able to defeat 47 Klingon Ships without somebody doing a George Kirk.

I can only imagine that they will NOT discuss it with outsiders.

I'm still wondering why there was a 'lightning storm in space' during that battle. Nero didn't even have the red matter at that point, and even if he had the only reason the 'lightning storm in space' line came up originally was becasue that's what the anomaly looked like before the Narada emerged from it.
