Neelix's riddle answers

This is the riddle posed by Neelix to Tuvok in "Riddles":

A lone ensign finds himself stranded on a class L planetoid with no rations. His only possession, a calendar. When Starfleet finds him twelve months later, he's in perfect health. Why didn't he starve to death?

Neelix's answer is that he ate the dates. (calendar days) Tuvok suggests the sundaes. (Sundays)

I thought about it for a while, and managed to come up with one more. Petit fours. (All the little number 4s)

The ensign was of a species that used photosynthesis, and was able to survive by absorbing sunlight.

First of all, it was a planetoid, not a planet and this planetoid might not even be orbiting a sun; a bit like the Founder’s planet in the Omarion Nebula. This planetoid could have been in orbit around a gravimetric eddy for example if it wasn’t simply just ‘floating through space’. This means that 12 months could be 12 hours? Hours instead of days, days instead of months… perhaps some day someone can also make a tactical encoded escape plan out of this as well as a joke? People with two dimensional thinking would fall for it… or not get the joke

Data. The answer to that would depend upon several factors which I'd have to ascertain first. The planetoid is class L, but which subclass?
Neelix: what do you mean, which subclass?
Data: Class L.can both cover planets such as the one Odo and Quark stranded on -quite livable, just without animal life-, up until those with barely breathable atmospheres such as the one captain Cusak stranded on.
Neelix: eurmm... I don't know, just assume it's closer to the first one.
Data: Does the planet orbit a sun?
Neelix: How is that relevant?
Data: well, the species could emply photosynthetics to sustain its energy needs
Neelix: No sun! It's an isolated planetoid
Data: Wouldn't he freeze to death?
Neelix: No, the temperature is perfect!
Data: What's the source of the heat?
Neelix: It's a mystery that cannot be explained, but the temperature is fine!
Data: ok, let us move on to the physiological details of the ensign in question. What species is he?

I always liked "RIDDLES". It was a good showcase for Neelix's friendship with Tuvok.

I have always found it humorous (and understandable and wished he baked for me) that Tuvok ended up having such a sweet tooth when he was not quite himself. Even his answer at the end when he was restored was dessert related when he said Sundays.
