Neelix Less Annoying?

I found the whole morale thing very lame and fake, especially how the crew responded to it, the reactions didn't seem natural at all.
I actually liked the selfish part in the beginning, painting Janeway as a captain who stopped for every little nebula they came by, and plunging the crew into another danger ... he seemed to be one of the few to think of what could happen and why the hell they didn't go "home" as fast as they could. A little selfish voice of reason so to say. Janeway could have done with some more of that during the 7 seasons.

After getting his bath, water, and a comfortable ship you would think after a while he would have asked himself "what did I get into".
Yeah, Janeway's reasoning about the "ethical dilemma's" they encountered never seemed consistent. But I guess they need to make a show after all.

I think there where times when Neelix got really annoying, but after Kess left, I think he got more of the writers attetion. He really was the shappy breast of the voyager crew. Hes like the afeminate gay uncle thats shuned by the rest of the family, but you can't help but love because deep down hes a good guy, even thought hes annoying and obnoxiusly maturnal!

I began to appreciate his role as morale officer, because when he leaves Voyager to live with the colony of other Talaxians, and with the scene where he leaves the ship, you can see the respect he earned from the other crew members over the years.

That's when all the cooking, news reports, nannying, and other things became more apparent, even if we couldn't see it at first.

Any of us can get a little "selfish voice of reason" any old time. That's not why I personally watch Trek.

IMO, if so many are having trouble dealing with the concept of gay marriage, then the mass public still can't handle the idea of a non-stereotypical portrail of gay people on Trek. It's sad. For all the talk of tolerance, very few actually have it.

However for me, if I was in charge of Trek. I wouldn't let such prejudice dictate what type of person or culture I'd put in my show. I'd force the issue. I think even the negitive press might be enough to get people curious about what all the fuss is about. I'd try and turn a negitive into a possitive.

We learned to accept the kiss between Kirk & Uhura during the fight for Civil Rights
It's time we learned to accept homosexuality on TV during the gay fight for Civil Rights as well.

Well, Trek has mentioned a lot of gayness all around ... remember in DS9 when Jadzia was in love with Lenara Kahn in rejoined? There are also trans-gendered species and such.

Neelix wasn't gay but I don't recall if he ever hooked up with a new woman?

To me, Neelix finally redeemed himself and became a likeable character in the second-last VOY episode. He was noble and strong and fought for what was right. There were very few times I could stand him before that, except for his nanny moments and maybe a few others were he was genuinely trying to console someone.

Neelix really never annoyed me. I really liked his cheerfulness and the way he presented himself on the show. He really seemed to help out Voyager when they needed him for advice about different planets and the Kazon! But after Kes left, he became an even better character. I also could have done without the Neelix/Paris jealousy thing over Kes though.
I didn't however like Paris in the beginning..I thought he was a womanizer and a pig. Then, once he settled down with B'Ellana and had a family, I respected his character and thought that he was just a 90's kind of guy with a good heart.
I also loved the banter between Tuvok and Neelix. Neelix at times, was always trying to pester poor Tuvok. And I love him calling Tuvok "Mr. Vulcan". I think Tuvok at times was annoyed at Neelix cause he rambled on so. I just really don't get the hatred for Neelix and everyone saying: oh he's so annoying he should have been off the show to start with! If you think Neelix is that bad, watch Enterprise and watch that Phylox guy..now he's REALLY irritating!

I hated the fact that he would approach crew members after they obviously had a horrible day ... or are not in any mood to talk ... and talk to them like "Turn that Frown Upside Down" attitude. I would have to deck him! lol
