Need help!

A modification to your plan: If you choose TNG or DS9, watch the very first episode, just to get introduced to the characters and set-up, then skip ahead to good stuff if you're so inclined.

With TOS, it doesn't really matter where you start since the episodes were never intended to be watched in any particular order. But the first two seasons are the best; the third and final season has its moments, but it's the far and away the weakest of the three.

I disagree that you'd watch "The Best" episodes as an introduction to a series. Give yourself sth to look forward to....what's the rush?

Yes you're right ,but in April, I have to go back to Sweden so I won't have Netflix and I hate torrenting... I also think that I won't be able to watch 700+ episodes. That quantity is what scares me.

All the series are quite different from each other [in tone, approach, style etc]. Perhaps instead of individual episodes the OP could even start with a specific season of one of the shows to give a more rounded feel for the show s/he is watching? It'd also be interesting to hear from the OP what style of show they prefer. TOS is campy and quite silly, TNG is quite preachy and slow paced, ENT has a more 'realistic' edge to it, VOY is just generally very fun to watch without being too deep or too silly. And, of course, DS9 is the dark horse of the bunch.

Well, after reading a lot of threads I've noticed that:

a, Most people hate ENT
b,They hate the new movies,too.

Also, it maybe important, that I prefer medium to fast paced episodes/movies. A bit of combat (between forces roughly equal in strength and in quality of leadership),a bit of diplomacy and alot of exploration. Also, I would love to see episodes centered on certain characters.

As of now, after watching 9 episodes of various series during the week, I decided that, as you said, I will watch a certain season of either TNG or DS9 or TOS. The next question is : Should I start right in the middle of a series,or watch it from the very begining?

Times a wasting. I watched TOS remastered in one long weekend.
You've wasted too much time already talking about it. LOL.

I'm pretty sure that's not even possible.

Sounds like Voyager is the series for you. It has all of that and is easily accessible. It isn't the best of the shows but I've noticed a lot of people got into Star Trek through watching Voyager. It's a decent show. Could have been better but is well worth a watch if you like Star Trek.

Which characters from Star Trek are you interested in seeing episodes centred on? We could probably point you in the right direction.

I'm glad you have decided to watch a season instead of individual episodes. I think that will help to immerse you in Trek. I, personally, would start from the beginning but if you want to dip in, season 3 of TNG is great and a good place to start. I really wouldn't recommend TOS as a place to start as, in my opinion, TNG is better in pretty much every aspect [stories, acting etc].

I also, would strongly recommend considering Voyager. It truly is an excellent show and criminally underrated by some Trekkies. It is very watchable, funny, serious, a big adventure. The characters are likable and the acting is good.

Also do not rule out Enterprise either. Its first two seasons are...weak...but the last two are very good and it has a nice change in tone from all the others.

I would like choose the one with the most diverse crew and which has a lot of different situations. If I like what I see, then I will watch that series and then the others, maybe in chronological order.(Only after I returned to the US,of course.)

Well, one of the things I like about Star Trek is the fact that there are some non-human characters with a different scales of values and I would like to see episodes centered on these "aliens". I was always intrigued by that how could a human adapt to an alien culture,or vice versa.

If TNG, season 3 would be what I'd want. Or 2-3-4 if you have the time.

I will have the time after my return to the US,altough I will have to prepare to my final exams (I learn physics at University.)

I don't rule it out (until now I only ruled out TAS) but until now I didn't heard any good critics of it.

I don't like the main story of Voyager but I will watch its pilot later today (I've already watched the Encounter at Farpoint and Emissary).

Also this is maybe time wasting BUT I don't have one long weekend to watch TOS because I have to:

a,eat
b,sleep
c,learn

Yep. Think DOCTOR WHO, where the Doctor "regenerates" periodically. Dax used to literally be an old man.

Hadrian: If you liked "Trials and Tribble-ations," you might enjoy checking out the original "The Trouble with Tribbles" from TOS.

Thanks for enlightening me 'bout it. And of course I will watch The Trouble with the Tribbles tomorrow :).
