Need help with a non-trek kitbash.

Bah Weep Grahna Weep Ninny Bong!

I mentioned in a couple of threads I made of my fics I have in mind to make, and I'm making some of the biggest elements of the stories in sprite form and in action figure form.

I want to make either a 1/6th scale or a 1/12 scale model of the B-Liner, which is the vehicle that my main character is going to travel about the alien planet in. The B-Liner is, best way to describe....a cross between a hot air balloon and a dune buggy. Now for those of you without imagination, here's what it looks like from the game cover the vehicle was seen in.

Any one got ideas what could be used to make the hull, because the B-Liner does have that distinctive shape to it, and I want to retain that as much as I can. Also, what could I use for the airbag without using a normal balloon, since they can either shrink or pop rather easily.

Thanks for any help. I'm going to make the exterior model, and a set of the interior as well. :bolian:

EDIT: I might even post images of the figures that I have made thus far soon. :)

Yeah, I think you are gonna need some serious Junkion help for that beast. If it were me, I'd scratchbuild it out of foam core and cereal boxes.

But 1:12? If I'm seeing this thing right, that'd make this contraption about 21" wide. Double that for 1:6. You'd need a small weather balloon to represent the balloon parts.

Or do you plan to build it more to "playset proportions" found in most commercial toys, where the sets are no where near correctly scaled for the figures?

Well, I don't wanna make it look like Playmates or Hasbro crap quality. I gotta make it look nice next to the figures I have made thus far.

Let me fish out a few images of Cassy in figure form. Gives an idea of scale with various background objects I used.

And yes, that's how Cassy dresses. ;) I still need to make a story on how she got that scar.

The humvee is 1/6 (It's also for sale), and the white table fan is about 12". The B-Liner, if we attempt to scale it, would be a smidge under 3 feet at its highest, not counting the air bag. The diameter, assuming the occupents are right in front of it and not too far from it, would be about 15 feet, I think.

Here's a screen shot from the actual 1983 game. It's crude, but give an idea of size comparisons.

And the interior

I'm going to slightly moderize both inside and out, making the B-Liner look like what it could be 26 years later, if it was upgraded and taken care of. Maybe replace the ropes with something alot more stable and less prone to breakage. Maybe I can even put some lights on this baby.

YEEOWZA!!!

I guess this story takes place on a nice calm, non-windy day, huh?

As to the B-liner, I suppose that if your intent is to use it just for this interesting little comic you've got going here, then you would only need to build small segments of it, Like a movie set. I had thought you meant to build it all. Which is insane. But oh well. I've got plenty of insane projects going on as well.

Enjoy.

I would like to build the whole thing, for both scales. The interor would be small segments, since it will be a separate item all togather.

Explain the non-windy bit, if you please. :vulcan:

Seriously? You need me to explain this? I hope you're being sarcastic.

One stiff breeze and this jumps up a step from PG-13.

Anyhow, If you're set on kit-bashing this, I really don't know of anything that looks anything like that shape at that scale. I suggest you jump straight to scratchbuilding. Go to the craft store and buy all of their foamcore. and then go back in a couple weeks after they restock and buy the rest, cause you'll need alot to build something this big.

Good night and good luck.

Hope it paints well.

And for her, one of the advantages of the body I used is that it's anatomically correct (above, anyhow...anyone who read my notes on her might guess I gotta d osome modifications for accuracy), so that vest is staying on there. :bolian: Right now, though, I got her in a silk sports jacket unbuttoned.

I hope a crafts shop also has stuff I can make the solar power slats for Daleks, as my WIP Dalek here needs some slats...it originally had slats and mesh, but were all a single piece of that soft, flexible plastic, and it did not look good at all. Here it is so far. The black between the silver bands and the shoulder section, and below the neck section were originally grey, but I painted them in to look better....and so this Dalek looks like a mix between the Evil of the Daleks and Death to the Daleks colors.

I got a second one in the works, a new series Dalek, which is going to have alot of soot and carbon scoring on it, and make my two Daleks like Kang & Kodos from the Simpsons. :bolian:
